Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Disclaimer: Anything you recognise I don’t own. Lily and
original story are mine. That’s it. Not making profit. Wouldn’t hope to,
anyway.
A/N: It’s been a long time since I’ve tried my hand at
SS/HG, so bear with me. If you enjoy it, as always, review. Rated for later
chapters. There will be graphic sex scenes, but this is not a smut fic, so if
that’s what you’re looking for, move along. Story contains HP/HG, possible
HG/LM. Het, Lemon, and possible Non-Con ahead.

Prologue/Chapter 1
____________
There she stood over his large,
black lump of a form, utterly stunned into silence. Or perhaps she was
horrified into the state. Horrible, ugly scars marred his face and hands, but
that face was still unmistakable to her.
No, she couldn’t- wouldn’t ever
forget it.
“You- you filthy, sodding-“
she stopped abruptly, then muttering under her breath, “there is no word to
describe you….” Her tone was grave, but somehow no anger could be found on her
face.
____________
It had been
three years since the very end of it all. Hermione was now almost 21 years of
age, now living what she almost felt to be a completely meaningless existence.
Her first seven years as a witch had proved to be as much excitement as she
would ever have.
If the
seventh year at their blessed school had commenced, which it had not, Hermione
had been positive she would have convinced Harry to go back, but Hogwarts was
unmercifully closed by the Governing Board of Wizarding Schools at the
Ministry.
It had been
no more than 48 hours after Harry’s seventeenth birthday did he appear on the
front doorstep of the burrow. The family, of course, not only expecting, but
pleased beyond punch to see him had no idea that only 24 hours later would Ron
and Harry be off again. It had only taken an hour of pleading by letter with
Hermione for her to join them. What else had they to do? They couldn’t become
Aurors, certainly. They still had a year of school to finish before they could
even train, and this simply was not good enough to Harry. In turn, was not good
enough for his two best mates, who had been there through it all, either.
While on
their hunt, the trio alone devised the perfect war strategy, tracked down the
remaining of Voldemort’s horcruxes, and made it possible to defeat almost the
entire Dark populace. Once and for all (or at least until another indecent,
inhumanely intelligent and devious, power hungry witch or wizard came along),
they had given rest and peace to the Wizarding world.
There was,
of course, sad news. No one could expect a completely happy ending, and if one
had, they would have been sorely disappointed in the end, despite the rejoice.
There were
still several Death Eaters at large and other opposers of the Light escaped the
clutches of justice. But most upsetting, was the condition of Harry Potter. He
had lived, though not by much, but instead he was now to spend the rest of his
life in St. Mungo’s. In the final moments of his battle with Voldemort, the
charge of he and the Dark Lord’s spell had left Voldemort a mass of ugly death
and Harry a mass of drooling, writhing mania. And though the Wizarding world,
as well as his best mates, believed in their hearts he would come out of it, it
was declared that he was permanently- well… fried.
In a
strange way, Ron and Hermione felt defeated at the foot of it all. In a strange
way, Voldemort was victor and they had failed Harry. It would have been one
thing for their power to kill each other, but another entirely for a world of
people to never be able to properly congratulate their very own saviour. And
another, on top of that, for his best mates to never be able to look at him the
same again. To never really know him again. It far surpassed the devastation of
death so very, very many reasons.
In summary,
Harry Potter was still alive, but he no longer existed.
Now, and
for two years, Hermione had lived at Number 12 Grimmauld Place (completely
redecorated, of course). Not alone, but not with Ron.
Ron had
retired to a place very nearby and not unlike the Black family home. The two
desired to be close, but to very much live separately.
What brought number 12 into
Hermione’s inheritance was none other than a small human named Lily Jane
Potter (after both of their mothers). The very daughter of ‘The Boy Who Lived’ and the ‘Insufferable
Know-it-All.’
The two
left of the trio were certainly most blessed with the child’s presence, for had
she not been born, Hermione could only imagine that she, too, at least, would
be spending the rest of her mundane life in St. Mungo’s.
To explain
Ron and Hermione’s romance at the end of their sixth year, it had been
short-lived when Ron realised of his own accord that there was no one better
suited to her than Harry. Ron, of course, discovered he was well-suited to a
generous handful of women.
Harry and
Hermione’s only night of cosummation, a night only one week before the final battle
took place, had brought the miracle of their daughter. Harry, of course, never
truly knew he had conceived a child. It was a good time after the war ended did
Hermione find out of her new position that was carrying child.
The new
Harry did know, however, and to the best of his ability, served as a temporary
father. It was the best attempt he ever gave at being normal again, which
sparked a glint of hope in Hermione each time they had a successful visit
together. For the brief time he spent with her it was all he focused on, which
even seemed to give hope to his nurses and doctors. It was really as thought
what ever of his former existence was still intact with him, he saved it
entirely for his offspring. Otherwise, they had no luck. No luck in trying for
him to remember a thing at all of the past 18 years of his life, including his
friends and his former “purpose” as set forth by his arch enemy. He treated Ron
and Hermione as a friend and lover to the best of his ability, but he would
have outbursts, of both the manic and the depressed kind, and complete lapses
of memory altogether- sometimes even seizures. It was devastating and made it
difficult to trust him with little Lily.
But, even
they, who knew best for the child, could not bear to keep them apart, no matter
how much it hurt them to see him in the state he was in.
There was a
particular time, however, that the lot of them were kept at bay for nearly a
month.
A good hour of visiting had gone by
when, from the clear blue sky, Harry burst out incantations in Parseltongue at
his unknowing daughter. Though he made no moves to hurt her at all, there was
no telling what it would have or could have lead to. Needless to say, with the
pitch of his voice raising, Hermione, Ron, and Lily were pitched out and not
contacted for a return visit for a month afterward.
Aside from these goings on and the
occasional request for an autograph, Ron and Hermione had been living out a
rather regular existence. Hermione assumed that’s exactly how it would be for
the rest of their lives. She was to be a normal mother who sent her child to
Hogwarts when she turned 11 and Ron would be a normal wizard who settled down
(eventually) and did the same.
Today would change that assumption
completely.
