Chapter Fifteen
The morning began much like the previous day had ended—with much of nothing getting done and enough drama to make any observer believe they were watching The East Enders. It wasn’t until Hermione snagged Draco in passing that she was able to get down to what she considered to be real business.
“What?! Granger! What the hell!” Draco exclaimed once she pulled him into the library.
“You have yet to tell me whom you were bragging to about your plans for yours truly,” she said, closing the door behind him.
Glaring at her, he said snidely, “Uncle Severus might get some ideas after I tell him about how you pulled me into this room.”
Severus stood up from a chair that had been facing away from them, walking over to his godson, saying, “I trust Miss Granger implicitly.” Flicking an imaginary piece of lint away from Draco’s shoulder, he added dryly, “She, on the other hand, doesn’t trust you. And after hearing you just now, I’m beginning to have my doubts as well.”
Draco thought quickly, but was only able to say lamely, “She was the one to pull me in here!”
“Answer her questions already,” Severus snarled in impatience.
Draco’s face went ruddy, as he said, “I was fairly into my cups when I was speaking about it. I really can’t recall who I was talking to.”
Hermione restrained herself from trying to strangle him and tried to think of a productive way to get the answers she needed. “Okay, where you in a private home or were you at a pub?”
Frowning he said, “It was at my club.”
“Is it exclusive?”
He snorted. “But of course.”
Hermione looked over to Severus who nodded and proceeded to ask the young wizard, “Which club was it—Merlin’s Crystal Cavern or Slytherin’s Summit?”
“Merlin’s Crystal Cavern,” he stated snottily. “They’re allowing just anyone into the latter club these days.”
“And yet you’re a member,” Hermione muttered, but then rushed on with, “Were you in a public or private area?”
“What do you mean?”
“Clubs have areas that are specifically for large groups to gather, but they also have rooms for let,” she said, seeing how his eyes were trying to avoid hers as she pointed this out to him. “But you knew that. Were you in a private room?” When he seemed to relax as well as look at her once again, she announced, “He was in a public one.”
“How did you know?” he exclaimed.
“For being a Slytherin, you’re rather painfully easy to read,” she drawled. “Was it a large room you were in?”
“I can’t recall,” Draco told her, beginning to look put out.
“Can you recall who was with your group at least?” she inquired.
Draco began to pace as he said names, “Zabini, Goyle, Nott, Bulstrode…”
“Millicent was there?” she interrupted.
“Yes, she’s been a member in good standing for years,” he murmured.
“Was she the only witch there?”
Frowning he said, “Yes, why?”
“Chances are that she wasn’t drinking as much as the rest of you and can remember more,” she pointed out, worrying her lower lip deep in thought. “Can you recall anyone near your table?”
He cursed, as he snapped, “I barely recall who was at our table, never mind near it!”
Patience, she told herself, was a virtue that she personally wanted nothing to do with, but this could mean someone’s life if she didn’t get the answers.
Thinking it over, she said, “I want you to close your eyes.” When he only looked at her oddly, Hermione snapped, “Don’t be a pill! Just do it.” He did so slowly and she told him, “Think back. Picture the people around you that day.”
“I can’t believe that you think I’ll be able to recall anything doing that,” Draco muttered, opening his eyes and looking over to her. “If I can’t recall it with my eyes open, I doubt I’ll be able to do so with them closed.”
“Then allow me to put it a different way for you,” Hermione said, but went over and snarled in his face, “The person that overheard you more than likely is the same person that set up the attack on your father and killed your mother. At the very least they are responsible for dousing me with a potion that would have killed the both of us and put your father as well as Severus into mortal danger. Stop acting like a fool and tell me who the fuck you told.”
Severus pulled her back from Draco, murmuring, “There, there, Miss Granger, don’t terrify the boy.” Hermione went over to one of the other chairs, while Severus told the young man, “You can’t recall anything?”
Rolling his eyes, Draco said, “I was in the Slytherin room of the club. That isn’t to say non-Slytherins weren’t there.”
“But the chances are slim,” the headmaster said quietly. “Whose portraits hang in that room again?”
“Grandfather’s,” he answered, as he thought it over. “Headmaster Black’s…”
“Phineas Nigellus Black?” Hermione murmured mostly to herself. “I thought he only had the two portraits.” She looked over to Draco. “The one at the school and the one over at Grimmauld Place.”
The blond only shrugged as he replied, “I didn’t even know he had one let alone more than that.”
“Perhaps it’s not a matter of having a portrait there,” Severus suggested. “Maybe he was visiting. Merlin there are times I have more visitors in the headmasters’ gallery of portraits than I do in my office itself!”
“Visitors,” she mused. “Phineas doesn’t make it a point to visit many others since the war ended. Told me that it wore him out—all that back and forth business.”
“And your point?” Draco asked snappily. “I’m not lying.”
“I never said you were,” she said, getting to her feet. “Had the former headmaster to your knowledge ever visited that club of yours before that you know of?”
“I can’t say as I’ve ever seen him there,” Severus said casually. “But I barely go there at all if I can help it.”
Straightening up, Draco stated, “Now that you mention it, I can’t recall him being there before when I was there. But that doesn’t mean much. I may go more often than Uncle Severus, but it isn’t as if I go more than once a week. That’s only when I don’t have a case I’m working on.”
“We have some people to talk to now,” she said, going over to the doors of the library opening them.
“We’re going to be speaking to a portrait?” Severus inquired, as he followed her out of the room.
“Perhaps two,” she replied, turning to face him. “So which place would you rather visit more—Grimmauld Place or Hogwarts?”
“Neither if I can help it,” he complained. “I’ve already been to the school far too much this summer as it is, seeing as it is my term break.”
“Grimmauld Place it is,” she said, taking his arm. “Since it’s Friday, chances are that Sirius will be there. If you don’t end up in a fight with Sirius, I’ll bribe you with the sexual favor of your choosing.”
“I’m not as shallow as all that,” he said, even as he was attempting to come up with ideas of sexual positions and locations. “I’m more than my sex.”
“Yes, that you are, Severus,” she murmured. “But you are a man subject to your sexual nature just like every other man out there.”
“You’re making it out that all men live only for sex! I’ll have you know that I lived years without a sexual companion.”
“Yes, but now you don’t have to,” she replied with a sweet smile. “I have a naughty muggle nurse’s uniform and I think I lost the panties that go with the outfit.”
He stopped dead in his tracks, muttered a curse as he felt his body’s response to what she had told him. “Let’s make this trip as quick as possible. But if Black starts something, I promise you nothing.”

I may not reply to them, but honestly I find it easier to do so if there are questions that can be answered. So ask me questions! If they aren't giving away any of the story, I'd be more than happy to answer them.

Here's the next quote! "After Ruth died and the railroad stopped running, the cafe shut down and everybody just scattered to the winds. It was never more than just a knock about place. But now that I look back on it, when that cafe closed the heart of the town just stopped beating. It's funny how a little place like this brought so many people together."
