Three weeks after the Battle of Hogwarts, as magical historians were already calling the confrontation between Voldemort's forces and the defenders of Hogwarts, Harry, Hermione and the Weasleys, minus Bill, Fleur and Charlie but including Percy, were all staying at the Burrow. Fred had been laid to rest two days after the battle, and the funeral was strangely tearless, probably because everyone present knew that Fred would not have wanted his friends and loved ones to cry over his death. Even Molly, Fred's mother and possibly the most emotional person there, was uncharacteristically composed, as if the knowledge of Fred's would-be reaction to a tearful funeral burned inside her heart and protected her against grief and sorrow. Perhaps this knowledge had such a profound effect on Mrs. Weasley because it just seemed so naturally Fred-like, and in turn, this conformity to Fred's would-be standards kept a part of him alive.
Either way, everyone was mostly back to their normal selves when they came down for breakfast on a sunny Monday morning. Arthur was scheduled to return to work that day (he was given three weeks leave following the battle), but his boss had sent an owl the night before saying that he could come in at ten, instead of the usual early hour in which he left. This meant he was able to eat and enjoy breakfast with the rest of his family for what felt like the first time in ages. Everyone was therefore surprised when a handsome-looking owl swooped in through the kitchen window, carrying an official-looking letter. It held its leg, which the letter was tied to, out towards Arthur. He took the letter, blinking a few times in bewilderment, and Summoned an Owl Treat from the box across the kitchen. After feeding the owl and sending it on its way, Arthur looked at the letter and said, “It's from Gringotts,” his voice and expression turning to curiosity.
He opened the letter, and began reading it. His face never changed while he was reading the letter, but when he was finished, he looked like he had just received a royal flush and was struggling to maintain his poker face as he handed the letter to his wife without a word. Perhaps she mistook his barely concealed joy for something negative, because she read the letter with a deeply worried expression. However, when she finished reading it, she screamed in joy, threw the letter into the air, and ran over to hug her husband. Harry, with the unerring skill of the Seeker, caught it in midair and turned it over to read it himself. The rest of the family crowded around Harry to read it over his shoulder:
Dear Arthur and Molly Weasley,
In honor of your family's invaluable contributions to the defeat of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, as well as the incalculable risk your son took to ensure that one of his links to life was removed from a Gringott's high-security vault and destroyed, Gringott's Wizarding Bank absolves your son of any crime committed against said bank. Furthermore, the Ministry of Magic, in partnership with the Wizarding Heroes Fund, has ensured the deposit of the sum total of five thousand Galleons into your account. Please accept our sincere gratitude for your heroism, and it may interest your family, as well as Mr. Harry James Potter, to know that the goblin who stole the Sword of Gryffindor from Mr. Potter has been punished. This is due to the recently-surfaced information that had the aforementioned goblin allowed Mr. Potter to retain the sword, he and his friends would have been able to avoid substantial risk to life and limb, for which we are holding the goblin responsible. The Council of Goblin Artisans has agreed, despite the long-held affirmation that goblin-made weapons and armor belong to their makers, not their owners, to allow the Wizarding community to use, display and/or honor the Sword of Gryffindor in a manner befitting its integral role in defeating He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.
Sincerely,
Griphook
Goblin President of Gringott's, London.
“Bloody hell!” Ron exclaimed. “This...this is wonderful! And to think that I had something to do with this...Oh, shit!” “What's wrong?”, Harry, Hermione, Ginny, George, and Percy chorused. “They didn't pardon you two,” Ron said, gesturing towards Harry and Hermione. However, as if on cue, another owl swooped in through the kitchen window, flew right past Molly and Arthur (who were still celebrating), and landed in front of Harry. He took the letter that the owl held out to him, and fed the owl in the same manner Arthur did before carrying it to the window and sending it on its way. The letter bore the same Gringott's seal as Arthur's did, but it was addressed to Harry and Hermione:
Dear Mr. Potter and Ms. Granger,
We at Gringott's apologize for any concern our previous letter caused in regards to your role in the removal of You-Know-Who's Horcrux from Gringott's. (We have named the object properly in this letter because it has been bought to our attention that, for their safety, you two have not told the Weasley family minus Ronald exactly how You-Know-Who has survived so many apparent deaths. We feel that your wishes should be respected in this case, and we will therefore leave it up to you whether or not to reveal this secret to them.) The addressees of this letter are also absolved of any crimes they may have committed against Gringott's in relation to the removal and destruction of the aforementioned Horcrux. Furthermore, an account has been opened in Ms. Granger's name, with an initial balance of five thousand Galleons. This donation is also in honor of her role in the defeat of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and is from the generosity of the Ministry of Magic and the Wizarding Heroes Fund. As for Mr. Potter, it has been bought to our attention that he has no need nor desire for additional money; therefore, the WHF, in partnership with Quality Quidditch Supplies, has donated a Firebolt racing broomstick to Mr. Potter to replace the one he lost while being pursued by You-Know-Who's forces shortly before his seventeenth birthday. Finally, construction is under way for a special section of the Ministry of Magic's Atrium, dedicated to the honor and preservation of the people and artifacts that played a role, no matter how small, in You-Know-Who's defeat. We at Gringott's suggest that the Sword of Gryffindor be displayed in this museum; we can not think of a better place for it, except perhaps in Mr. Potter's possession. Either way, the construction of this museum is being funded by the WHF and being carried out by master goblin artisans, with generous assistance and compensation from the Ministry.
Sincerely,
Griphook
Goblin President of Gringott's, London.
After reading the letter, Harry, after shooting Percy a look that politely but firmly told him that this letter contained information that he should not be privy to, handed it to Ron, who read it with Ginny. Hermione, meanwhile, was in tears of joy, and perhaps Ron realized what type of tears they were, because he read the letter before coming to her side and hugging her. Ginny, about to put the letter down, said, “Hang on, there's a postscript.” It read:
P.S: Accounts have also been opened in the names of the remaining Weasley children, with each containing an initial balance equal to Ms. Granger's, for the same reasons and from the same charity.
P.P.S: Ronald and Ginevra Weasley, for their love of the sport of Quidditch as well as their skill equaling Mr. Potter's in playing it, have also each received a Firebolt racing broomstick, also through the generosity of the WHF and Quality Quidditch Supplies.
After the news was shared with the relevant people and the joy had worn off, Harry cleared his throat in a way that said that he wanted to speak to the room at large. “I have some information to share with you all. For those who are already privy to it, please bear with me,” and he explained all the details, large and small, of his, Ron's and Hermione's quest; the importance of both the Deathly Hallows and Voldemort's Horcruxes in the events leading up to and including the Battle of Hogwarts; and every detail he could remember about that battle. When he finished, it was a quarter to ten and his throat was slightly sore; Ginny was clutching Harry's hand as if she never wanted to let it go (she had been doing this ever since he mentioned watching her on the Marauder's Map, and doubled her grip when Harry got to the part about walking across the Hogwarts lawn under the Invisibility Cloak and almost losing his resolve upon seeing her); Percy was dumbstruck, as were his parents and George.
Both letters from Gringott's were passed around to those who had not read one or both of them, and before Arthur left for work, he beckoned Harry out to the garden. “What's up?” Harry asked nonchalantly. “You're not in trouble, so there's no need for the act,” Arthur responded with a wink. “Here, take this. It really helped Molly and I when...well, you'll find out. And I already gave a copy to Ron...bloody wonder he knows what's where.” He slipped Harry a small book from under his robes, warned him to keep it hidden from Molly until he got home (which was when, as he said, he'll “explain things to her”), walked to the garden gate, went through it, and Disapparated. Harry was completely dumbfounded, until he had gotten up to his and Ron's room and looked at the book properly. It was titled, “Sinful Spells: How to Make Lovemaking Safer, More Enjoyable, and Easier-No Matter Your Level of Experience!” Harry, having received nothing from the Dursleys that even closely resembled the “birds and the bees” discussion, was intrigued, so he opened the book and began flipping through it. A note fell out of the first few pages:
Consider this my permission—if you decide to take advantage of it. Molly will understand.
Arthur
“You too, eh?” Ron said after closing the bedroom door, nearly making Harry jump out of his skin. “Nearly thought my skin would burn off from embarrassment when he gave me my copy. Stupid enough to read the title in front of him, I was. Still, I see the sense in it...” Ron trailed off, sitting down on his bed. “Just don't...with Hermione and I, alright?” Ron asked in a rush. “Wasn't thinking of it,” Harry mumbled, turning crimson.
Little did Harry and Ron know that Molly Weasley had had two clandestine meetings of her own, with her daughter and Hermione. She had given each of them the same book. In Ginny's room, she and Hermione were perusing the pages of the book with typical teenage female glee, giggling when they read or saw something particularly kinky, pointing out useful things here and there. In the end, it was Hermione and Ginny who decided to tell Ron and Harry about their encounters with Molly, rather than the other way around. After the initial embarrassment wore off and everyone was on the same page, the only question that remained was, did Arthur and Molly plan this together or separately? Both couples agreed, however, not to take advantage of this opportunity until Arthur and Molly “explained things” to each other (the other three meetings, including the ones with Molly, were strangely similar to Harry's conversation with Arthur).
At lunch, nobody present who was involved in this exchange of books gave any indication that their opposite numbers were in the same boat, as it were. However, this didn't stop Hermione, Ginny and Molly from exchanging clandestine looks, followed by silent laughter from all three of them. Ron and Harry noticed it all, yet they did a good job of pretending that they didn't. The mood was broken by Arthur coming in the kitchen door, announcing that he was granted permission to come home for lunch. Before sitting down to eat, he beckoned his wife into the living room. After coming back into the kitchen, wearing looks of parental concern, Molly and Arthur both sat down at the table, and Arthur said, “Harry, Ron, Ginny, Hermione—.” “We know,” the four chorused. “Oh. Well, that makes things easier.” Arthur looked relieved, and started tucking into his lunch without another word.
The air of awkwardness was gone by the time lunch was over, and after Arthur departed for work again, Molly, looking slightly deflated, reluctantly said, “I'll head to Diagon Alley for shopping or something.” “Wait,” Harry said. “Yes, dear?” Molly said, looking relieved as she turned around. “We're not...chomping at the bit for this,” Harry said, glancing at his girlfriend and two best friends, receiving confirming nods in return. “You don't have to go out of your way to give us privacy...at least, not yet. Plus, do you really think we'll be comfortable knowing that,” he gestured to Ron and Hermione, “...are doing it in the next room, or vice versa? No offense, mate,” he added. “None taken,” Ron replied. Molly gave an obvious sigh of relief, and proceeded to clean up after lunch after thanking the four teenage wizards for giving her at least this temporary peace of mind.
