Chapter Summary:
... “I. Don’t. Want. Him. To. Leave.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Severus looked up from the shipment of ingredients he was labeling and organizing at the sound of the buzzer indicating he was wanted upstairs. He’d figured out the hard way some other method of communication was needed the first time Aster called down the stairs for him and he lost his entire supply of fire seeds in the potion he was making. Luckily, it had only been ruined rather than the alternatives of exploding or releasing a noxious gas.
Having an extended houseguest took some getting used to when the most he’d ever hosted before was occasionally babysitting Draco overnight when he was growing up. He accidentally scared the pants off them both when he got up in the middle of the night to pee and walked into the bathroom he kept closed at all times without thinking to knock first.
Eventually, Severus made it upstairs to find Aster waiting for him in the living room down the hall. “Is everything alright?” he asked the Pet.
“This just came for you,” Aster replied as he held up an envelope.
From the meager glimpse of the front he’d caught, Severus recognized his own name in his best friend’s handwriting. He took the letter and opened it; already knowing what was inside. His eyes skimmed it to confirm and he did not feel the relief he thought he would have almost two months ago now.
Aster sidled up next to him and tried to peak at the parchment as he asked, “what it is?”
“Nothing that can’t wait until tomorrow,” the black-haired man coolly stated as he folded it in half before the teen could catch a single word. “I wouldn’t mind an extra pair of hands in my lab; if you weren’t in the middle of anything.”
The teen lit up like a kid on Christmas. “I’m bored as fuck, actually!” he happily admitted.
“Give me a minute and we’ll head back down,” Severus said with an oddly wistful smile.
Almost immediately following dinner that evening, the man of the house announced he was going to pay a visit to Malfoy Manor; as he needed to discuss something with Lucius. He reminded Aster of the general rules while he was gone and informed him he’d probably be out rather late and not to wait up.
Severus was stepping into a dark entryway a few moments later and he took off down the hall without bothering to announce himself. He made his way toward the light spilling from the open double doors of the drawing room and where he could hear the sound of a voice.
The man turned the corner only to immediately shout in horror and backtrack a few feet so he couldn’t see into the room. Though, the image of Lucius being blown by his Pet was likely burned into his retinas forever. He shuddered at the poorly muffled groan of release he heard not a second later.
It wasn’t until a heavily pregnant Harry waddled past him with a taunting smirk that Severus dared try to reenter the room. “That’s whatcha get,” the teen hissed as he crossed the threshold.
“Evening, Sev,” Lucius greeted his friend with a small amount of amusement coloring his voice. The aforementioned man first made a beeline for the liquor and poured himself a massive drink.
“You’d better hope I manage to forget what I just saw,” he groused before drinking deeply from a pint glass and then immediately refilling what he drained.
Lucius chuckled as he picked up his own, more sensibly sized, glass. “There are a plethora of ways you could have alerted us to your presence to avoid mentally scarring yourself,” he reminded him. He sipped his bourbon before adding, “I do hope this is a short visit though. Harry has been exceptionally insatiable lately; but more importantly, irritable, and he is not happy with the interruption.”
“I thought you were the master, here?” Severus teased as he finally sat down.
The blonde man took a deep breath, his eyes widening almost hysterically as he said, “one day you will have a pregnant someone to take care of and then you’ll be singing a very different tune.”
Severus raised his glass. “Agree to disagree.”
“So, what, exactly, prompted this unannounced visit? Actually, what really surprises me; was you not scribbling back an emphatic, ‘thank fucking gods,’ on that letter I sent this afternoon,” Lucius changed the topic.
The black-haired man took a long draw from his alcohol before replying, “that… that’s actually what I need to speak to you about.”
“Is something wrong?” Lucius worriedly queried.
Severus scoffed derisively at himself. “Entirely depends on one’s definition of ‘wrong’,” he muttered before taking another couple of sips.
Lucius’ eyes scrunched in bemusement. “Sev, I’m going to need a little more information if-”
“Idon’twanthimtoleave,” the younger man interrupted in a hasty slur.
Silver eyes blinked a couple of times. “One more time; slower and enunciate,” he requested.
“It’ll be ‘bout the last clear speech you’ll get outta me tonight,” Severus first said as he raised his glass again to show how drained it already was. “I. Don’t. Want. Him. To. Leave.”
Lucius blinked again. “R-Really?” he stammered in complete surprise. “Didn’t we recently have a brief discussion about you not wanting to fuck… -let’s just call them what they are- teenagers?”
“That’s not even what i’s about,” Severus began his explanation, his slurring intensifying. “Sure, havin’ someone ‘round to fuck whenev’r the mood strikes soun’s like a bloody fantastic thing. But it… It’s the not bein’ alone bit.” He pensively added, “then if ya do wanna be left ‘lone, they leave you alone. They gener’ly do what they’re told when i’s still jus’ a request. They don’ argue with you…”
Severus then stood on unsteady legs to refill his glass and the blonde man was grateful for the pause in his, now inebriated, friend’s rambling because he could not continue holding in the laughter that last couple of statements elicited.
“Wha’s funny?” the dark-haired wizard asked as he grabbed a random container and poured from it. More of the liquid ended up on the bar than in his cup.
“If you were talking to almost any other master, they would likely agree with you,” Lucius tittered as the other man sat back down. “But I am not any other master and Harry…” he trailed off with a dreamy smile. “Harry is… Harry.”
The drunk man thoughtfully stared at his best friend for a minute. He set his second entire pint of liquor down so he could give him his full attention. Seriously, and much more clearly than a moment ago, he said, “you love ‘im, don’t you?” Obviously, it wasn’t actually a question.
Lucius said nothing; just raised his tumbler to his lips, only to realize it was empty. He took his time refilling it and neither spoke again until he was seated. “You always have the option of keeping Aster,” he reminded him; returning them to the previous topic.
“I may be comf’rtable as a private co’tract potion brew’r, but not ‘nough to jus’ drop a couple thousan’ galle’ns like that,” Severus huffed in response.
The older man considered his friend over the rim of his glass for a moment. Finally, he shrugged and said, “call it an early birthday present.”
“My birthday w’s three mo’ths ago… ‘n’ you di’n’t ge’ me anythi’g then either,” the dark-haired man groused with a petulant pout.
With a roll of his eyes, Lucius playfully retorted, “call it a late birthday present.”
A few hours after he’d left, Severus was stumbling back into his own living room from the floo. He haphazardly kicked off his shoes before staggering down the hall toward his bedroom.
Hand on the knob, he paused and drunkenly decided he needed to inform Aster of the decision that had been made RIGHT. THEN. He popped the door opposite his open with a careless lurch, barely managing to keep it from banging against the wall and himself, upright.
Eventually, Severus was standing at the edge of the sleeping Pet’s bed with light from the hall streaming over his serene face. His dark eyes blinked heavily down at him for a moment before attempting to wake him because, currently, he was seeing three of him that were rotating in a circle and it was making him dizzy.
The combination of being stared at and the light now on his eyes, Aster quickly stirred awake. “Sir?” he drowsily queried as he pushed himself up on one elbow. His blanket fell off his naked chest with the action and Severus did not fail to notice the newly exposed, olive skin.
Well, that threw what little self-control the inebriated man might’ve had left out the window. He’d already had images of various scenarios with the Pet flashing through his mind for the last hour and half; having Aster directly before him now, and quite possibly naked, was too much.
Without a word, Severus yanked the covers off the teen to get an answer to his last thought. The boy was, unfortunately, wearing a pair of loose pajama bottoms to sleep in, but it was still the most of Aster’s flesh he’d seen in a long time… or anyone’s for that matter.
Severus’ eyes raked over the prone, supple body a few times until they came to a stop on a growing bulge. He was on top of him in a flash; his mouth sloppily meeting Aster’s as he settled between pajamaed legs.
A pair of arms wrapped around his robed back as he immediately began thrusting against the more than willing Pet beneath him. It didn’t take long for the need to breathe to set in, causing the dark-haired man to reluctantly pull his mouth away and bury his face against the side of an olive throat instead.
Only a few moments later, Severus found his movement becoming erratic before he bit down on the neck in front of him; muffling his grunting as he spilled himself in his pants.
Despite the intoxication, he had the sense to keep moving until Aster’s fingers dug into his shoulder blades and he arched up against him with a stilted moan of, “Severus!” The already spent man shuddered one final time at the sound of his own name.
Severus awoke the next morning to a soft tapping that was like the pounding of a bass drum in his ears. His eyes cracked open against his will and he had to pull his comforter over his head immediately due to the brightness of the sun streaming in the window. He groaned from the harsh noise of his door clicking and creaking open.
Footsteps padded near, followed by two shrill clinks of glass objects being set on his nightstand. Retreating steps were then heard, his door was softly shut, and he was alone once more.
Dark eyes blearily peaked out from beneath the shelter of the blanket to see a full glass of water and a yellow potion he hadn’t had to use in many, many years: Hangover Healer. He gratefully down the vial of liquid before sitting up in his bed; realizing he was still fully clothed as he did.
“Aster!” Severus loudly called to also test the potions efficiency and happily noted his head didn’t give the barest of a throb. He sipped the glass of water while he waited for the summoned Pet to join him.
A moment later, a sandy head of hair trepidatiously poked into the room. “Yes?” the boy nervously asked; thinking he might have been in trouble for entering his temporary master’s room without permission.
“Obviously, I made it to my own bed last night,” he began as he waved the Pet into the room. “But would you happen to know when? I’m not sure I even remember leaving there.”
“Well…” Aster slowly made his way across the room as he explained, “I went to bed around eleven and you definitely, uh, came… home after that.”
Severus’ eyes scrunched in slight puzzlement at the odd way the teen answered his question only to shift to concern almost instantly when he spotted a mark on his neck. He pointed at the left side of his own throat, mirroring the bruise, and asked, “what happe-”
It wasn’t a clear picture, by any means, but the middle-aged wizard was suddenly slammed with memories of the last thing he did before passing out the night before. He turned wide, apologetic eyes on his young houseguest and fervently pronounced, “Aster, I am so sorry. I didn’t…? Did I…?” The thought was so horrifying; he couldn’t even voice the question.
Aster’s immediate response was, surprisingly, a soft giggle. “No, if I had wanted to stop you, you would have been stopped, Severus; easily,” he tittered with a shake of his head.
“Oh, thank fucking gods,” the tense man breathed and relaxed under the relief of knowing he hadn’t committed assault. “Wait… did I hear that right?”
The Pet gave him a timid smile. “That’s actually the second time, though. You probably don’t remember it from last night,” he finished with a bit of cheek in his voice.
Severus paused to go over what little he could recollect from their rather wanton, late night activity. He shivered anticipatorily as one moment, one specific word, came back to him clear as day. “Now I do,” he all but growled his response as black eyes met hazel. They heatedly held each other’s gaze until the grown adult had some sense to stop before he did something even dumber.
“I know myself well enough to guess why I’d gone in your room to begin with, though; so, if you’d sit for a minute,” he gestured to the end of the bed as he moved his legs.
Aster cautiously took a seat and first asked, “I’m not in trouble, am I?” He nodded toward the items he’d brought him a few minutes ago.
Severus glanced at what the teen was talking about. “No, of course, not,” he quickly reassured the guarded Pet as he returned his attention to him. “In fact, thank you. Who knows how long it would’ve taken me to move without that and I have something rather pressing to attend to today.”
“Does it have anything to do with that letter yesterday? Or why you went and got stupidly pissed with Lucius?” Aster astutely guessed.
“Both, actually,” the older man replied as he threw his blanket off himself and stood up. “I will be right back, though; because if I don’t get to a toilet soon, my bladder is going to explode.”
Not three minutes later, Severus was back and with a mildly unpleasant expression on his face. “I can’t remember the last time I had to deal with that issue,” he loudly mumbled to himself as he crossed directly to his dresser.
As he dug for something more comfortable to lounge in for the rest of the morning, he glanced over his shoulder at the fifteen-year-old still sitting on his bed. “I have a question for you, Aster,” he announced as he pulled a pair of sweats and a plain t-shirt from his bottom drawer.
“I’m listening,” the sandy-haired Pet replied as he noted the quite serious tone in Severus’ voice. His eyes then widened in shock when the man actually began changing in front of him.
“First,” Severus started as he pulled his robe from the day before over his head, leaving himself in nothing but socks. He kept his back to Aster as he dropped the garment in his laundry basket and asked, “how have you enjoyed your time here so far?”
Without hesitation, the teen replied, “I can say with complete honestly it’s been a thousand times better than with my old master.”
Having removed and left his semen-encrusted briefs in the bathroom hamper, Severus quickly slipped on the sweatpants without bothering with a new pair. He’d be showering and dressing properly later anyway. “Is that all or…?” he queried as he turned around.
Aster shrugged a little. “I’m bored sometimes, you know, when you’re downstairs for really long periods of time. But, I like working on potions with you and stuff… a lot, actually,” he expanded with pinkening cheeks.
Fully clothed again, Severus stepped in front of the Pet and finally got to the good news. “So, what if I were to tell you; we’ll be making a trip to the ministry today and when we leave I will officially be your master?” he asked with a warm smile.
There was a heartbeat’s worth of silence before Aster launched himself at the man and enveloped him in the tightest hug imaginable. Since his removal from Tom’s care, he’d gotten used to being treated like an actual person whose thoughts and feelings mattered. And he didn’t care that most masters fell, at least slightly, closer to Lucius than Tom on the kindness spectrum; the idea of any master now, besides the one in his arms, filled him with both dread and sorrow.
Severus was frozen in shock for a brief moment over the physical response to his revelation. Obviously, he’d expected some kind of ‘yes’, maybe even an enthusiastic one, or a few tears; but the embrace, he did not.
When he finally wrapped his own arms around Aster, the face pressed against his collarbone looked up at him with watery, hazel eyes. “Thank you,” the boy murmured.
After lunch, Severus and Aster were in the ministry atrium near the lifts, waiting for Lucius to emerge from one of them. He beckoned them to him once his obvious head of platinum hair became visible.
“You’re lucky I was able to get you an appointment this quickly,” the blonde man informed his friend once it was just the three of them, plus the attendant, in the elevator.
Severus gave him a smug grin. “Thank you, I appreciate your facilitating my purchase before someone else could swoop in,” he mockingly expressed his gratitude.
“With my money,” Lucius reminded him as they came to a stop. They exited the lift and he led them around the level until they came to a closed office door. “Oh, and you’ll be needing this,” he casually noted as he removed something from his pocket and placed it in Severus’ hand.
Dark eyes observed the Slytherin green, leather collar with approval as the other man knocked to announce their arrival.
A moment or two later, it was answered by an upper middle-aged, brunette witch. “Right on time,” she happily declared. “Lucius.” She shook his hand before turning to the black-haired man and repeating the action with him. “Mr. Snape, I’m Linda. It’s a pleasure to meet you this fine afternoon,” she introduced herself.
“Severus, please,” he politely corrected her. “And this would be Aster.” He gestured to the teen standing slightly behind him. The Pet stepped forward and started to hold out his own hand to greet the woman, but then he paused to nervously glance up at the man beside him.
With a nod and an encouraging smile, Severus assured him, “it’s alright.”
Linda gladly took the offered hand and said, “it’s lovely to meet you, as well, Aster.” She then returned her attention to the now unneeded party. “As payment has already been taken care of, I believe we can handle it from here.” Lucius gave her a cordial nod and he was on his way.
“Alright then, why don’t you both have a seat and we can get started,” the witch suggested once the door was shut. “This really shouldn’t take long,” she added as she sat in her own chair behind the large, cluttered desk.
“First order of business,” she began as she opened a folder directly in front of her. “Do you need a new collar, have you brought one, or would you like the spell on his current one updated to apply to you?”
Severus procured the gifted collar from the pocket he’d stowed it in for the meantime and passed it across the desk to Linda. She examined it for a second before waving her wand around it a few times.
“It needs the spell to ensure only you can remove it, but other than that, it’s fine,” the brunette woman replied as she set it down between them to circle back to later. “Next, would you like to change his name?” she asked with far more nonchalance than Severus was comfortable with.
“I can do that?” he returned; expressing one part interest and two parts curiosity, but largely, just disgust. Dark eyes regarded the Pet seated next to him as he voiced the only reason he wasn’t entirely repulsed by the idea. “How do you even feel about your name? If you’d rather not keep the one your first master gave you, now would be the time to change it,” he gently voiced.
Aster shrugged. “It’s about as good as any other name, I guess. If it had meant something to him, I’d probably care; but he literally just read random names out of a book until he liked the way one sounded AND that he hadn’t already used on another Pet,” the teen explained with very little concern. “It took a while.”
“What was your name before that?” Severus next queried out of nothing more than genuine curiosity. An olive face paled in an instant and Aster seemed to shrink into himself. The man looked at the witch patiently waiting for an answer and said, “we’re going to need a moment.”
Severus coaxed the suddenly distraught fifteen-year-old out of his chair and led him as far from the desk as they could get while still being in the room. Meanwhile, Linda loudly busied herself with straightening up her workspace.
“What’s wrong, Aster?” the dark-haired man kindly asked.
Hazel eyes glanced nervously at the distracted women before he waved his new master close so he could whisper in his ear. “Did Lucius tell you the kind of place I came from?” Aster first questioned; nearly inaudible. When he received an immediate, minute nod in response, he despondently finished, “we didn’t have names; just ID numbers.”
Severus was speechless for a second. No wonder Aster had reacted the way he did to that question. That was fucking depressing. “You don’t even want to think about this, do you?” he carefully deduced.
“Not really, no,” the sandy-haired boy murmured.
“If you’re happy with Aster, then nothing needs to be done,” Severus softly concluded.
As they headed back to their seats, the young Pet added a little more cheerfully, “and it is what I’m already used to.”
“Has a decision been made?” Linda asked without a hint that there had been any interruption at all.
“There won’t be any change to Aster’s name,” Severus informed her.
The woman quickly scratched down a few things with her quill before obviously signing whatever she was writing on. She handed the document and quill to the man across from her and said, “this is Aster’s certificate of ownership. Once you sign it, we just need to get his collar taken care of and you’ll be off.”
Severus did as he was instructed and once he handed the parchment back, Linda immediately made a copy and gave one to him to keep.
A few minutes later, the new master and Pet were making their way back to the lift; green leather now taking the place of red around Aster’s neck.
“So, Pet, what should we do to celebrate?”
