Hermione closed hers and Ginny's bedroom door behind her and leaned against it, letting out a deep breath.
"You okay?"
Hermione's eyes snapped open in surprise.
Ginny was sitting on her bed in her pajama's, a smirk on her face.
"You scared me," Hermione stated as she made her way over to her trunk, opening it and grabbing out her sleep wear.
"Too busy daydreaming about Malfoy?"
Hermione kept rifling through her trunk, keeping her back towards Ginny as she said, "Nope."
"You're a horrible liar. You two were totally doing it in his room just now weren't you?"
Hermione spun around and stared at Ginny. "What? No! Why would you even say that?"
"Well, you two were up there for quite a while…"
"And that automatically means that I was sleeping with him?"
"Naturally."
Hermione burst out laughing. "Sorry to disappoint you Gin, but that's not what was happening."
"Well then, what was happening?" Ginny inquired.
"We were just talking," Hermione stated, a blush rising to her cheeks as she turned away, but not before Ginny spotted it.
Ginny smirked, but let the subject drop. She knew Hermione was shy when it came to sex and everything else, but from the look on Hermione's face, Ginny knew that they were up to more than just talking.
"Ron is going absolutely mental at the thought of Malfoy being here," Ginny stated, a smirk plastered on her face.
Hermione turned back towards her friend, feeling more comfortable with the topic.
"And you find that amusing?"
"Of course I do," Ginny stated.
Hermione shook her head laughing.
"If you had a brother, you would understand the amusement behind having one of your siblings pissed off and annoyed. He's annoyed me enough throughout the years that I love seeing it happen to him."
"True enough."
"You know, I'm actually surprised with how cool mum is being about his staying here.." Ginny said suddenly.
"What?"
"With Malfoy. She knows all the crap that he has put us all through in school throughout the years, yet she's treating him completely normal. I'm just surprised I guess."
"I am too. She even warned me to keep an eye on him because of Fred and George."
"Well, mum does know how Fred and George can get."
"You don't think they would do anything to hurt him, do you?" Hermione asked.
"I wouldn't put it past them, but I highly doubt they will do anything drastic with mum around. They'd be stupid if they did. Mum would kill them. She takes what Dumbledore says seriously, regardless if she agrees with it at first or not. Although she didn't understand why he wanted Malfoy to come here and spent the holidays with us, she didn't once say she wouldn't allow it. She trusts Dumbledore completely."
Hermione didn't know what to say, so instead she got changed into her sleepwear and slipped into bed. Hermione flicked her wand and the lights went out.
"When are you going to tell Harry and Ron about you guys?" Ginny asked suddenly.
"I don't really know if there is anything to tell.."
"What do you mean?"
"I just don't know where things are going. I don't know what he wants or how he feels."
"Hermione, the guy is staying at a house full of people who despise him, are you really questioning how he feels?"
"Dumbledore made him come here Gin, it's not like he had a choice."
"I get that, but he didn't need to be here. We have enough people here who could protect you if need be. If Malfoy said he didn't want to come here, then he wouldn't have had to."
"Dumbledore never gave him the option Gin."
"There is always an option Hermione. If Malfoy was that opposed to being here, I seriously doubt that Dumbledore would have made him come here considering who all is here."
"I don't know.."
"You need to stop doubting it. I'm honestly surprised that no one else has caught onto the two of you. It's not like you're discrete about it."
"What?!"
"Oh come on! You stick up for him all the time in front of everyone. And, if anyone looked close enough you can totally see that the two of you are comfortable around one another. Before you would have your hair all up like a cat when the other was around, you can totally feel and see the difference in your guys' body language."
"I still don't think anyone will approve of us, whatever we are." Hermione said slowly.
"At first that's probably true, but you never know."
"You do know that this is everyone's worst enemy that we are talking about don't you?"
"He used to be your worst enemy at one point too Hermione, and look at you guys now." Ginny stated.
Hermione chewed on her lip and kept quiet. She really wished that Harry and Ron would be understanding of her relationship, or whatever it was, that her and Draco shared, but she seriously doubted it happening. But she also knew that she was going to have to tell them all about everything soon, whether she wanted to or not.
The rest of the week went by uneventfully, minus Fred and George playing a prank on Draco every chance they had. Ron would glare at Draco whenever he had the opportunity, and would occasionally accuse Draco of being a Death Eater, to which Hermione would defend him. Draco had noticed Harry look at him and study both him and Hermione whenever she would stand up for him. He could tell by the way Harry's eyebrows drew together that he was trying to figure out exactly what terms him and Hermione were on. So far, it seemed he was still not in the loop about the two of them, which Draco preferred. He didn't even know what the loop was when it came to Hermione and himself. He was just taking things day by day.
He had to admit, the week actually wasn't as bad as he had believed it to be, which he knew had a lot to do with Hermione. The two of them had spent quite a bit of time together, much to Ron's annoyance and Ginny's amusement. Draco would get stolen moments with Hermione away from everyone else whenever he could, without being too obvious about it.
When Draco woke up on Sunday morning and headed down to the kitchen for breakfast, which was the routine, he walked into the kitchen and was met with the faces he had become familiar with, along with some that he hadn't seen before.
The chatter that was taking place at the table stopped upon his arrival.
"Who is deees andsome young man?!"
Draco looked over at whom the voice belonged to, and recognized the blonde from when she participated at the Triwizard Tournament at his school.
"What's a Malfoy doing in this house?" said an older red head who was sitting on the right side of the blonde.
Draco was wondering what Fleur was doing sitting at the Weasley's table, and then remembered hearing that she had married one of the older Weasley's.
"Malfoy. I know zat name," stated Fleur who was studying him thoughtfully.
Another Weasley walked into the kitchen from the other side of the kitchen, and upon seeing Draco raised his wand, pointing it menacingly in his direction.
"Malfoy," Percy snapped.
Hermione walked into the kitchen behind Draco, and upon seeing what was happening, jumped in front of Draco, her hands held out in front of her.
"Percy, he's with me," Hermione stated.
Draco watched as Percy's eyes traveled back and forth between him and Hermione.
Molly came stumbling into the kitchen with another man whom Draco had never seen. She took in the scene and quickly came to the rescue.
"Oh dear, I forgot to mention that Draco has been staying here for the break. Percy, lower your wand."
Percy did as he was told, but looked at his mom incredulously. "And why exactly is he staying here?"
"Dumbledore has ordered that he stay here with us for the two week break, so that is what he is doing."
Draco felt eyes on him, and he looked over at the man who had walked into the kitchen with Molly. He determined that this was another one of her children, the red hair being an obvious give away. The Weasley son was studying him closely.
Ron and Harry came into the kitchen next, followed by Ginny who squealed and threw herself at the Weasley sibling who was looking at him.
"Charlie!"
Charlie grabbed her and swung her around in a hug.
"Well look at you, all grown up."
Ginny shoved Charlie playfully. "And look at you, turning into an old man."
Charlie laughed and ruffled Ginny's hair. "Still a feisty one you are." Then he looked over at Harry. "Good man you are to put up with my sister here."
Harry walked over and shook Charlie's hand smiling. "She's not all that bad," he said with a wink at Ginny.
Ginny flushed.
"Awh, Gin you're blushing!"
"Shut up Bill."
"Alright, alright everyone take your seats, breakfast is about to be served," Molly said ushering them all to the table.
Hermione looked at him and started towards the table, him following behind her. It had become customary that Draco sat beside Hermione at every meal. He ended up sitting across from Charlie, Harry and Ron, with Ginny taking the seat on his other side.
A loud pop emanated in the kitchen, and Draco looked around upon hearing the sound of Apparation.
"Fred, George! Is that really necessary?" Molly snapped.
"Course mum."
"Gotta have a little fun while we can."
"Go take your seats at the table."
Once everyone was seated, Molly waved her wand and the table became full of a variety of different breakfast foods. Everyone started piling up their plates as Molly took her seat beside her husband.
Everyone started chatting around the table, and there were multiple conversations taking place. Draco looked up as Charlie addressed him.
"So, what's the real reason for your being here Malfoy?"
Ginny, Hermione, Ron and Harry and stopped eating and waited to see what would happen.
"What do you mean?"
"Did Dumbledore actually send you here?"
"You think I would choose to come here on my own accord?"
Hermione felt her face falter at his comment, and Ginny looked over at her apologetically. Draco looked at Ginny, and then over at Hermione and realized how that must have sounded.
Charlie looked at him for a minute, smirked and said, "True enough. I heard you play seeker for the Slytherin Quidditch team?"
"I do."
"Only because daddy bought his way onto the team," Ron hissed under his breath.
Draco narrowed his eyes at Ron. "Says the guy who only made the team because his best friend is the Quidditch Captain."
Charlie quirked an eyebrow, watching them interact.
"Harry being on the team had nothing to do with it," Ron snapped.
"Neither did my father."
"Bullshit!" Ron exclaimed, slapping the table with his hand.
"RONALD!"
Ron's ears went red, but he did not look away from Draco.
Charlie could practically taste the testosterone radiating off of the two boys.
"You want to know what can fix this all up?" Charlie asked.
"What?" Ron snapped at his brother.
"A nice family game of Quidditch."
"Ouuu! Yes please!" Ginny said excitedly.
"What's Ginny all excited about down there?" Bill asked.
"You in for a family game of Qudditch after breakfast?" Charlie asked Bill down the table.
"I don't know…"
"What's wrong? Afraid I'll beat you again? Getting a little too old to ride a broomstick anymore?" Charlie asked teasingly.
"You're on little bro," Bill stated.
"Now, now. You boys better play nice.." Molly started.
"We're in!" the twins exclaimed at the same time.
"Me too," Ginny stated smirking.
Charlie looked at Draco.
"Sure, why not," Draco stated.
"Harry, Ron?"
"I'm in." Harry stated.
"So am I," Ron said, glaring at Draco menacingly.
"Good, this is going to be fun," Charlie said smirking before turning back to his breakfast.
Draco nudged Hermione under the table once everyone's attention was back on their food.
She looked over at him and quirked an eyebrow.
"What?"
"Hey, I didn't mean it like that."
"You don't have to explain yourself to me Malfoy. I already knew that this was the last place you would want to be on your holidays, you didn't have to say it out loud for me to know it's true," she stated before turning her attention back to her plate in front of her.
Draco watched as Hermione pushed her food around on her plate without touching it. He was about to say something to her about it, but she stood up from the table pushing her plate away.
"Sorry, excuse me but I don't seem to be feeling very well. Do you mind if I just go outside and get some fresh air?"
Molly looked over at Hermione concernedly, "Of course not Hermione dear! Feel free to go outside and get as much fresh air as you want, I am sure the boys will join you once everything is all cleaned up."
"Thank you," Hermione said with a small smile before going outside.
Draco watched her until the front door shut behind her and then turned his head so he was facing forwards again, and caught Harry staring fixedly at him. Draco quirked an eyebrow at Harry, playing indifference before shifting his eyes back down to his plate.
Draco felt a sharp pain in his left leg and cursed.
Charlie looked up at Draco questioningly.
"Sorry, muscle cramp," Draco stated.
Charlie shrugged and then started talking to Ron about dragons in Romania again.
Draco looked over at Ginny who was staring at him expectantly.
"What the hell was that for?" Draco hissed quietly.
"Go after her," Ginny whispered.
"What?"
"Go. After. Her," Ginny whispered forcibly.
Draco shifted his gaze from Ginny, to the door that Hermione just left through.
"And how am I supposed to do that without making it look blatantly obvious?" Draco snapped back quietly.
Ginny rolled her eyes and then looked over at her mom.
"Mum, should Hermione really be left outside alone?"
Molly's eyes widened and she threw her hands up in the air. "Oh my goodness, I wasn't even thinking. Ginny you 're right! I'll go outside and make sure that-"
"Malfoy can go," Ginny stated confidently.
Molly stopped her rant and looked at Draco and then at Ginny.
"What?"
"He's already finished eating breakfast, and besides he'd probably feel more comfortable out there anyways compared to being in here," Ginny said looking around the table indicating that everyone at the table was family besides him and Harry, who was practically family also.
Molly realized what Ginny was saying and said, "You know what, I think that is a good idea. Draco, would you mind going outside and making sure that everything is alright?"
"Sure," Draco stated, making his voice sound neutral and bored.
"Thank you," Molly said smiling as Draco stood up and pushed his chair in. He looked at Ginny who winked at him. He smirked as he headed out the door after Hermione.
Ginny looked up and saw Harry staring at her intently. He gave her a look, and Ginny knew what that look meant. It meant that he wanted to talk. Well, looks like Harry finally sees what's going on, or at least wants to know what's going on, Ginny thought.
She nodded once, indicating that she understood, and went back to eating her breakfast, wondering how the hell she was going to explain things to her boyfriend.
Outside Hermione had found a big tree to sit down and lean against. Since she was facing away from the house, she didn't see Draco come up behind her.
"Hey," he said softly.
Hermione snapped her head in his direction.
"Hi."
"You okay?"
"I'm fine."
"I didn't mean-"
"Like I said inside, you don't have to explain yourself to me."
"Clearly I do since you're upset."
Hermione stood up quickly and was facing him.
"I'm not upset Malfoy."
"And you're still a horrible liar," Draco stated.
Hermione narrowed her eyes at him.
"I'm not lying."
"Really?"
"Really."
"Granger, you took what I said the totally wrong way."
"And how exactly was I supposed to take it Malfoy? It's no secret that you don't like Ron's family, and vice versa. It's no secret that this is the last place on earth that you would want to spend your holidays. I already know that okay?" Hermione snapped.
"Did I ever once say that?" Draco asked angrily.
"You didn't have to!" Hermione exclaimed.
"You can't just assume that you know everything Granger!" Draco snapped.
Before Hermione could say anything back everyone started piling out of the house.
"Yo! You guys ready to head over to play some Quidditch?" Charlie yelled.
"Yeah, we're coming," Hermione answered as she headed over towards everyone.
Draco watched as Hermione joined up with the group, and he followed behind angrily.
The group of them headed over towards the field that they used as a Quidditch pitch, and once they were all there Charlie used his wand to make the goal posts.
"Alright," he said once he was finished and was facing them all again. "Since we need two teams, I'm going to be the captain of the first team, and Bill, you're going to be the captain of the second."
"Fine by me brother," Bill said walking up to the front and standing next to his brother.
"Alright, so I guess I'll choose first."
"No way, I'm choosing first this time," Bill stated.
"If you believe that it will help you win, feel free," Charlie said smirking.
"Harry," Bill stated.
Charlie smirked at his brother. "Malfoy."
Draco looked up at Charlie in shock. He did not think that he was going to be chosen until last.
"Why are you choosing Malfoy?" Ron questioned. "He plays the same position as you."
"Because, little brother. I have heard that Malfoy here is quite the player, so I am going to play keeper."
Draco walked up next to Charlie.
"Don't make me regret choosing you on my team," Charlie whispered out the side of his mouth.
"Fred," Bill stated.
"Ginny."
"George."
"Percy."
"Ron."
"That's five players for me, and four for you Charles. What are you going to do?"
"Mind if I join?"
Hermione felt a huge smile light up her face upon turning to the person who the voice belonged to.
"You came!" She squealed as she tackled him with a hug.
"Blaise?" Draco asked confused.
"Sup Drake," Blaise said smirking.
"What is he doing here?" Ron questioned.
"I invited him," Hermione said smiling.
"Who's this?" Charlie asked.
"Blaise Zabini," Blaise said extending his hand for Charlie to shake.
Charlie reached out and shook his hand. "Charlie Weasley. You play?" he asked, indicating the field behind him.
"I've played a few times."
"Good. I'll take Blaise. Looks like that makes the teams even Bill."
"You're going down," Bill stated. "Team, come with me!"
Draco watched as the other team walked down the field, their brooms in hand. From the looks of it, Bill was giving them all a prep talk. He turned his attention back to his teammates.
"Alright, so what position do you play Blaise?" Charlie asked.
"I've played chaser before.
"Perfect. Since we have a small amount of people, and this is just a family game, we only play with a seeker, keeper, and chasers. So you, Percy, and Ginny will be our chasers."
"Sure, sounds good."
"And Malfoy, I want you to play seeker like I said before, and I'll play keeper." I already know that Bill will be playing chaser alongside Fred and George, with Ron as keeper and Harry as the seeker. I'm assuming everyone here knows Fred and George, and knows that they are troublemakers, so make sure to keep your eyes on them, they are bound to have a few tricks up their sleeves."
"Yeah, well I have a few tricks myself," Ginny stated determinedly.
"That's what I like to hear," Charlie said ruffling his sisters hair. "Anyways, as much as this game is about fun, I don't want to lose because Bill will never let me hear the end of it. So go out there and try your best. That's about all I have ladies and gents."
Charlie went and grabbed a broom from the pile that had been brought out, followed by Percy and Ginny.
"So why are you here?" Draco asked.
"Hermione invited me."
Draco looked over at Hermione, who had leaned up against a tree to watch the game.
"How did you even get here?" Draco asked.
"Portkey."
"How-"
"Hey, don't ask me. I got a letter from Hermione telling me that she had been in contact with Dumbledore asking if I could come to the Weasley's for a day, which she had approved by them, and that a portkey was being set up for me in a spot near my house and would bring me here."
"And Dumbledore allowed you to come here?"
"It looks that way to me, considering I'm here right now. But you have Hermione to thank for that, she set the whole thing up. She was telling me how she felt bad about how you were surrounded by people with whom she knew you weren't entirely comfortable around, and that she wished I was here. Next thing I knew, I got a letter telling me that I could be here. So, here I am."
Draco looked back over at Hermione, and he felt a tug in his chest.
"She really cares about you mate," Blaise said as he watched his friend study Hermione.
"She shouldn't," Draco stated.
"Why?"
"Because I'm only going to end up hurting her."
"Why do you say that? It's obvious that you care about her too," Blaise said.
"It doesn't matter."
"Draco, I'm saying this as your friend, not your enemy. You need to stop worrying about what everyone else thinks of you, and start worrying about yourself. I've never seen you actually have feelings for someone before, yet I can see that you care about her. Do what makes you happy. Stop putting up walls to hide behind like you have for as long as I have known you. Hermione is an amazing girl, and you're lucky to have someone so loving and caring interested in you."
"There's no future for us Blaise. What, you think my parents are going to accept her with open arms? Hell no. My father would kill her right on the spot, or give her over to his master in order to gain favour in the rankings. There is no good ending to this, whatever this is."
"The ending is whatever you make it to be."
"We both know it's not that simple Blaise," Draco snapped.
Charlie hollered for them both to join him on the field, and Draco could have sworn that he heard Blaise mutter something under his breath as he walked away.
He thought he had heard "You're going to break her heart."
But, there was no way that that was what he had heard.
How could he break her heart?
She hadn't given it to him….
And then he was hit with a memory.
"Am I not good enough to come and hang out with you and your friends over the holidays?" Draco asked angrily.
"Draco, what are you talking about?!"
"Or is it because you were looking to rekindle your relationship with Weasley and now I'm getting in the way of it? Because if that's the case then don't let me interrupt," Draco said standing up and stalking off.
"Draco stop!" Hermione snapped.
Draco stopped walking and turned to look at her.
"What Granger?"
Hermione stood up and walked angrily towards him.
"You want to know what's bothering me Malfoy? I'm worried about what is going to happen with all of us under the same roof. It's no secret that Harry and Ron hate you, and it's going to be a shit show when they realize that I no longer share those feelings! I'm worried that I'm going to lose my best friends because I've been keeping secrets from them about pretty much everything this year! Not only that, but they're probably never going to forgive me when they realize that not only do I not hate you, but that I have strong feelings for you that even I can't explain! It has nothing to do with wanting to get back together with Ron, because there is no way in hell that that is going to happen when I've given my heart to someone else!"
Draco looked back over at Hermione, but her attention was on the Quidditch pitch where everyone had gathered to start the game.
Did that mean….?
Draco looked back over at Blaise, who had grabbed a broom and was talking with Charlie.
Had he heard Blaise correctly after all?
