Draco felt someone slam into him from his left side. He looked over and saw one of the twins, he could never tell which one, zooming away on his broomstick, laughing over his shoulder.
"Get your head in the game Draco!" Blaise shouted as he zoomed by with a makeshift Quaffle in his hands.
Draco shook his head, emptying his mind.
He looked over at Harry, who was still looking for the makeshift Snitch that they had created out of a golf ball. He saw that Harry was still looking around the field, and Draco let out a breath of relief. The game was still on.
He heard shouts from below and looked down to see that his team had scored. Draco smirked as Ron threw a fit over his sister scoring on him.
He turned his attention back to the sky and looked around, trying to spot a flash of white. He chanced another look at Harry, and saw that he was still scanning the field like he was.
Draco felt something slam into the side of his face, and he immediately tasted blood as his face went numb. He heard Ginny yelling something angrily at one of the twins, and heard Ron whooping in laughter.
"Sorry Malfoy, the ball slipped," one of the twins said as he was hovering close to him.
"Oh I bet it did," Draco snapped sarcastically.
"He sounds a wee bit mad, don't you think Fred?"
"You know what George, I think he does."
"Think it's because his pretty face isn't so pretty anymore?"
Draco, who had had enough with the twins picking on him, raised his hand and flicked it, causing Fred to collide into George.
He wiped the blood that had leaked out of his mouth off of his face, and flew away from the twins before they could recover. He could hear them grumbling behind him.
Draco was circling the pitch when he heard Charlie shout out to him. "That's it Malfoy, don't let those two push you around out there!"
Draco smirked at Charlie, and continued in his search for the Snitch.
Draco heard cheering, and looked down quickly. He sneered as he saw Fred and George high-fiving.
He saw Harry do a quick dip, and Draco felt his heart drop. Harry was going to catch the Snitch before him again. Just as Draco was about to attempt chasing after him, Harry pulled out of his dive and continued circling the field.
Draco wiped off his forehead, removing the beads of sweat that had formed.
Blaise scored, followed by Ginny. Draco could hear Charlie cheering from his position in front of the posts.
"Come on guys, we're getting sloppy!" Draco heard Bill yelling as he zoomed by.
"And Ron, stop leaving your left side wide open!"
Draco couldn't help the smirk that etched it's way onto his face at that last comment that reached his ears.
Draco looked down at Hermione, and that's when he saw it. The Snitch was hovering right near her. Draco didn't think twice, he angled his broomstick so he was speeding towards Hermione, who's eyes popped open upon seeing Draco coming straight at her. Draco couldn't hear anything else around him, all he was focusing on was the Snitch, which was still hovering near Hermione. Just as he was getting close to her, Draco reached out his right hand and closed it around the golf ball, pulling his broom to an abrupt stop a few feet away from Hermione.
He opened his hand, and smiled as he saw the Snitch. He had finally beat Harry.
Draco turned his broom back towards the field, and threw his hand up into the air, the golf ball evident in his hands.
"YES! WE WON!" Charlie exclaimed as he zoomed off the field and towards Draco.
He patted Draco on the back. "Nice going Malfoy."
"Thanks."
Everyone else came down to the ground, where Charlie and the rest of the team now was.
"So Bill," Charlie started.
"Shut your face Charles," Bill said shoving him playfully.
"Told you I'd win," Charlie said winking at his brother.
"You got lucky."
"Nah, I just had a good seeker."
"Who cheats," Fred stated.
"Look who's talking!" Ginny exclaimed.
Fred and George smirked at each other.
"Harry's always bested Malfoy at every Quidditch match back at Hogwarts," Ron stated angrily, defending his best friend.
"Hey, no one is denying that Harry is an amazing Quidditch player, because he is. Trust me, I've heard all about it, considering he replaced me while only in his first year. I'm just stating that Malfoy is a pretty good seeker too."
Blaise slapped Draco on the back.
"Nice going mate."
"Thanks."
"Yeah, I seriously was wondering what the hell you were doing. One minute you're circling the field and the next minute you were darting towards Hermione," Ginny said.
"Yeah, and quite quickly I might add. Nothing like scaring the crap out of me," Hermione stated stiffly.
Blaise's eyebrows drew together as he took in Hermione's tone.
"Sorry Granger," Draco stated.
"Whatever," Hermione said indifferently.
"Well, I don't know about you all, but I've worked up quite the appetite and I'm sure that mum will have lunch sitting and waiting for us for when we return," Charlie stated suddenly.
"Oh, I could definitely go for some food right now," Ginny stated. "I'm starved."
"My girlfriend everyone," Harry said wrapping his arm around Ginny, placing a kiss on her head.
Everyone headed back to the Burrow, where they were greeted with the mouth watering smell of Mrs. Weasley's cooking.
"Oh, come in, come in, and take a seat! Lunch is just about ready!" Moly exclaimed as she ran around the kitchen.
Everyone started taking their seats, and Hermione took the seat across from Blaise and Draco. Even though she was currently frustrated and mad at Draco, she wasn't going to ruin what she did for him.
Hermione had decided that she wanted to do something nice for him, since he was stuck spending his holidays with her. Although he seemed to be a little more comfortable with getting around, she still knew that he would rather be back home or with his friends then in the Weasley's house whether he admitted it or not. So, she had talked to Mrs. Weasley about inviting over a mutual friend between Draco and herself. At first, Molly had been a bit hesitant, but once Hermione had explained how important Blaise was to both of them, and what a great friend he had been to her, Molly had said it was okay, as long as Dumbledore approved. Later that night, Hermione had written a letter to Dumbledore asking permission for Blaise to come and visit one day during the week at the Burrow. Dumbledore had been thrilled with the idea, although he asked if she believed that Blaise could be trusted with her whereabouts. Once Hermione had described to Dumbledore that she trusted Blaise as much as Harry and Ron, Dumbledore had approved and had come up with the idea of the portkeys as a means of transportation between the two destinations. He gave her a date and time that the portkey would be set up, and it was up to her to relay the information to Blaise, which she had done immediately. She had not been surprised when he had responded saying that he would be there.
Since Hermione hadn't taken her usual seat next to Draco, Ron had jumped on the opportunity and now occupied the seat on her right. Charlie had sat on the other side of her.
Molly came around with the plates and handed them out. Once she spotted Blaise she said, "Hello dear, you must be Blaise. Hermione has told me so much about you. It is a pleasure to meet you."
"Thank you Mrs. Weasley. Hermione has spoken very highly of you and your cooking. I cannot wait to test it out for myself."
Molly flushed and sent Blaise and Hermione a huge smile, and then continued handing out plates around the table.
"Suck up," Draco whispered.
"Bite me."
When all the plates were served, Molly waved her wand and once again the table was covered in an assortment of different foods. Draco hadn't realized how hungry he was until all of Molly's cooking was staring him straight in the face. He started piling food up onto his plate, with Blaise and everyone else following suit.
"Hermione was right, your food is phenomenal," Blaise stated in between bites.
"Oh, don't be silly," Mrs. Weasley said waving Blaise off, her face radiating her pleasure.
"So how has your first week off been Blaise?" Hermione asked.
"They're been alright. Haven't really done a whole lot. Hung out with Nott once. Other than that I've just been chilling."
"You and Nott hung out?" Draco questioned.
"Surprisingly yes. Guess he was bored like I was. Although he did keep asking me why you weren't joining. Don't worry, I covered your ass."
"I'm just surprised the two of you got along without killing one another."
"Weirder things have happened."
"True enough," Draco stated as he looked at Hermione. She quirked an eyebrow at him, then turned her attention to Blaise.
"I'm glad you came," Hermione said smiling at Blaise.
"And miss out on the opportunity to see two of my closest friends? Of course I came. It's better than just sitting at home with Nott for company. I love the bloke, but I can only handle him in small doses."
"Theodore Nott?" Ron questioned.
"The one and only," Blaise stated.
"I heard he's a git."
Blaise laughed. "Well, he can be."
"Makes sense as to why him and Malfoy are friends then," Ron stated smirking.
"They're both alright once you get to know them," Blaise stated.
Ron snorted and tried covering it up by taking a spoonful of food.
"It's not like you're the best of company either Weasley," Draco stated.
"You're both ridiculous," Hermione said shaking her head.
"Male testosterone is evident between these two," Charlie said waving his fork back and forth between them.
"You do know who that is, don't you?" Ron asked his brother. Everyone around the table went quiet.
"Well his last name does make it quite obvious."
"Yet you sit here and talk to him like he's your equal."
"Ron, you'll learn that petty drama between people in school is not worth all the hassle."
"He's made my life hell the past six years of Hogwarts, along with Harry's and Hermione's!"
"Yet Hermione doesn't seem to have a problem with his being here," Charlie stated.
Ron looked at Hermione and scowled. "Yes because she trusts the git all of a sudden, or so she says."
Draco's eyes snapped to Hermione as he studied her. Had she really told Weaselbee that she trusted him?
"Do you not trust her judge of character?"
Ron stayed quiet.
"Well?" Charlie pushed.
"I trust Hermione but I do not trust Malfoy, nor will I ever. His father is a bloody Death Eater! Does no one else remember this fact? Yet here he sits, in our kitchen like he belongs. I don't care what Dumbledore said or that Hermione believes Malfoy is some hero that saved her life, he's still a bloody Malfoy and probably did it all as part of a plan!" Ron snapped.
Hermione had heard enough. "You're just mad because instead of being the one to save me, you were too busy cheating on me with Lavender. You can't stand the fact that Draco was there instead of you. Well guess what Ron, he was. And having someone save your life on more than one occasion causes you to trust that person. He could have left me for dead, yet he didn't. So sorry if that to me warrants trust in a person. At least he didn't break my trust like you did," Hermione snapped as she stood up and walked out of the kitchen.
Molly sat there, her mouth agape.
Blaise stood up, and Draco followed.
"Excuse us," Blaise said as he walked away from the table, Draco leaving with him.
As soon as the door closed behind them, they heard Mrs. Weasley explode.
"RONALD WEASLEY. YOU CHEATED ON HER?"
Ginny looked at Harry, a smirk on her face. She always knew that her mom would freak out had she known the real reason Hermione and Ron broke up. But of course Ron had lied to her and said it was mutual, that they had decided to be friends instead. It was apparent by the look on everyone else's faces that they were unaware of these events also.
"EXPLAIN YOURSELF!" Molly snapped.
"It was an accident-"
"An ACCIDENT? Do you realize how lucky you were to have a girl like Hermione? AND THEN YOU GO AND CHEAT ON HER? WHO IS THIS LAVENDER?"
Ron's face was bright red, and he refused to look at his mother. He was looking down at his plate.
"She's a girl he used to date before Hermione. Total idiot," Ginny stated helpfully.
Molly looked from Ginny to Ron, her eyes wide. "The girl you said was annoying and too clingy?!"
"That would be the one," Ginny said.
"RONALD, EXPLAIN YOURSELF!"
Everyone at the table was staring at Ron expectantly.
Harry was looking around, feeling totally uncomfortable and out of place.
"I don't know! It just happened! I felt like Hermione wasn't paying enough attention to me. She was always studying or patrolling!"
"So that gives you the right to cheat on her? She's the Head Girl! Of course she's always busy! And you've always known how important school is to the girl, did you think that was going to change just because the two of you started dating?!"
"I hoped it would," Ron mumbled.
Molly shook her head at her soon, disappointment evident on her face.
"Hermione is a great girl, and she did not deserve what you put her through. You're lucky she was nice enough to talk to you and be your friend again after it all, she's a lot more lenient then I would have been!"
"I messed up okay? I know I did. And I've been kicking myself in the ass for it ever since because I realize what I did. I still love her, and I know that she wants nothing to do with me."
"And for good reason!" Molly huffed.
"Did she hex you?" Fred asked suddenly.
"Yeah did she Ron?" George asked excitedly.
"Of course she didn't! Hermione is a sweet girl, and is more mature than that. Oh that poor girl, I bet you just broke her heart!" Molly said sadly.
"I don't think er eart is broken. At least not anymore," Fleur stated.
"What do you mean?" Ron questioned.
"Av you not seen ze way er and zat Malfoy boy look at one another?"
"What do you mean the way they look at one another?" Ron questioned angrily.
"Oh come on. Please tell me I'm not ze only one who 'as seen it," Fleur stated looking around the table.
Ginny made sure to avoid eye contact.
"I have noticed that they've been acting differently…" Harry stated suddenly.
"What are you all talking about? So what, she trusts him, they're still bloody enemies!" Ron snapped.
"You would never be able to tell zat they were enemies by ze way dat they look at each other."
"You're mental!"
"RONALD!"
"Sorry Ron. But I av been watching it appen all week. Those two are definitely more zan enemies."
"So what, they look at each other, who cares. That doesn't mean anything," Ron stated in denial.
"I don't mean zat zey just look at each other. I mean zey really look at each other. I've seen zat Malfoy boy looking at her more zen once, with not a shred of 'atred on his face. And I've seen er looking at him ze same way."
"I've noticed it too…" Harry said softly.
"What! What do you mean Harry?" Ron demanded.
"I didn't want to think anything of it either. In fact, I had been denying it for the longest time. But I think that there is more going on between Hermione and Malfoy than we all realized," Harry stated.
He looked over at Ginny who was avoiding the conversation.
"At least, more than some of us realized," Harry said staring at Ginny.
"What? Ginny! What do you know? Ron asked angrily.
Ginny glared at Harry and then looked at her brother.
Hermione was in hers and Ginny's room, letting off some steam. She paced around the room. She couldn't believe Ron, calling Draco a Death Eater in front of his entire family. Like it wasn't awkward enough. And then he had to say in front of everyone that he didn't believe her when she said she trusts Draco. Was he the one who had been there for her when she was attacked? No. It didn't help that she was already upset with Draco, and then Ron had to cause a huge scene in front of everyone too.
Hermione felt guilty about leaving Blaise downstairs to deal with it all. He hardly knew the Weasley's. But, at the same time, Hermione knew she had to get out of there. She had said her piece, and didn't think she could handle what would come next. She had finally admitted out loud in front of his family the real reason that they had broken up. Hermione had figured that Ron hadn't told his family this, and it was apparent by the look on their faces that they hadn't known. Hermione felt a little victorious. Especially when she had heard Mrs. Weasley yelling at Ron. It wasn't like Mrs. Weasley was the quietest person, so Hermione had been able to hear her yell at her son about his cheating.
She had felt a pang in her chest when she had heard Draco say what he did to Charlie. She had always known that he would prefer to be somewhere else rather than the Burrow, but she had been hoping that she was helping him have a half decent time being in her presence. Well, on the bright side there was only a week left of the break, and then they would all be headed back to Hogwarts.
She threw open the window, and inhaled a breath of fresh air.
Draco and Blaise had went outside, avoiding the fiasco that was occurring inside.
"Mrs. Weasley didn't sound happy," Blaise stated.
"Well Weasley is a bloody idiot."
"Considering the circumstances, I can agree on that."
"What do you mean?" Draco asked.
"Him cheating on Hermione with Lavender. That was a stupid move on his part."
"What makes you say that?"
"Because Lavender is a complete ditz, she doesn't even come close to Hermione in any aspect. I don't know why he would cheat on Hermione with someone like that. I don't know why he would cheat on her at all."
Draco sent his friend a questioning look. "Do you like her?"
"Hmm?" Blaise asked.
"Granger. Do you like her?"
"She's my friend."
"Well the way you talk about her makes it seem like you view her as more than a friend," Draco stated.
"Nah. Hermione's a sweet girl and didn't deserve what Ron put her through. I admire the girl, I think she's absolutely brilliant, and she's such a caring person. I don't know why he would give up someone like that for a girl like Lavender. That's all I meant by it."
Draco studied Blaise, and felt anger welling up inside of him. He pushed it down, shaking his head. Why was he getting jealous of his best friend?
"Drake, you have nothing to worry about."
"Huh?"
"Hermione doesn't look at me as more than a friend. And besides, we both know it's you that she wants."
"So you keep saying."
"It's blatantly obvious mate. At least to those of us who know what love looks like," Blaise stated.
"She has never uttered those words, so what makes you think that she feels that way?"
"Because I know her."
Draco didn't know how to respond. It was true, that the two of them had developed a relationship of sorts, but he didn't know where it was going or what it meant. Did he love her? Hell, he didn't think so. But, he did feel protective over her, and found that he would get extremely angry if anyone else looked at her the wrong way, or talked about her in a certain way. That much was obvious from the way he felt about some of the things Weasley said, and what Blaise had said moments ago. He didn't want anyone else to touch her. She was his to touch.
Draco shook those thoughts away. His? Since when had he started thinking of her as his? He thought back to everything that had occurred between the two of them ever since the start of the school year. In a way, he had become her savior, her protector. He was hers.
He hadn't even thought about another girl since being with Hermione. He had seen plenty of girls naked, had slept with a handful also. But none of them had compared to what he felt upon seeing Hermione nude. None of them had evoked feelings of protectiveness, of jealousness, of anger of someone else talking about her, or thinking about someone else touching her. She drove him wild. He had always thought of her as an insufferable know it all, a goody goody, that she would have a boring personality. Oh how he was wrong. He had always known that she could be feisty, but he had seen a wild side of Hermione that he never could have imagined existed, and it drew him in and intrigued the shit out of him. Not to mention her body. He had never seen one so perfect. He loved the smell of her skin, the taste of her lips, the way she smiled at him nervously when she was doing something that she wasn't comfortable at, and the way she would smile at him when they were alone, the smile lighting up her entire face and make her eyes shine brightly. He loved the way she would look at him sometimes, like she was looking into his soul and was actually looking at him as a person, not as the Draco Malfoy she had grown up to hate.
Draco's eyes widened in shock upon his realization. He couldn't believe it. He was in love with Hermione bloody Granger.
Ginny looked over at Ron, who was seething in anger. "I don't know anything Ron, and if I did, it wouldn't be my business to tell."
"So you DO know something!" Ron snapped.
"I didn't say that."
"But you didn't deny it either."
"Honestly Ron, it's none of your business about what Hermione does in her spare time, or who she chooses to hang out or who she chooses to like. You gave up that privilege when you cheated on her," Ginny snapped.
"SO BECAUSE I CHEAT ON HER THAT MEANS SHE GOES TO MALFOY?"
"She didn't GO to Malfoy Ron. He saved her LIFE on more than one occasion."
"ONLY BECAUSE IT'S ALL A PART OF HIS MASTER PLAN!" Ron shouted angrily.
"I'm done with this conversation," Ginny stated getting up from the table.
"OH NO YOU'RE NOT!"
"RONALD"! Molly snapped.
Ginny pulled her wand out of her pocket and aimed it at her brother, her eyes glinting dangerously.
"You are not the boss of me Ron, and it would be wise if you remembered that," Ginny snapped as she turned her back on her brother and left the kitchen.
"Remind me not to piss her off," Charlie stated.
"Yeah really.. She's a feisty little one," Bill said amused.
"She ever turned on you like that Harry?" Charlie asked.
"Nope."
"Does anyone else care about the fact that she didn't deny that something is going on between Malfoy and Hermione?" Ron questioned.
"Well, if there is anything going on between them, not that I'm saying there is, but that really isn't Ginny's business to tell, nor is it yours," Charlie stated.
"Of course it's my business! I'm supposed to be her best friend. And her and I are supposed to get back together!" Ron exclaimed.
"She doesn't have to tell you anything she doesn't want to. And if there is anything going on between them I am sure that she will tell you when she's ready."
"She should tell us right away? Don't you agree Harry?" Ron asked.
"I don't know."
"What do you mean you don't know?" Ron asked appalled.
"Well, if there is anything going on between them, I can't exactly blame her for not telling us. We're not exactly his biggest fans. I'm not happy about the idea either, but we don't know anything for sure so we can't just jump down her throat about it. Hermione is a reasonable person, I'm sure if we talk to her she will talk to us," Harry stated.
"And what if her and Malfoy are together?" Ron asked.
"Well, then I guess we are going to have to deal with that when the time comes. I don't really know what else to say on the matter. I'm just as uncomfortable with the thought of them together as you are, but Malfoy was the one who saved Hermione's life on more than one occasion, and without him she wouldn't even be here with us now."
"What is with everyone? Harry, this is DRACO MALFOY we are talking about. I don't care what he did, there is no way that he and Hermione can be together. He's a pureblood who hates Muggleborns, which he has made quite obvious throughout the years. Besides, Hermione is supposed to be with me, everyone knows that!"
"You lost out on that chance the minute you cheated on her Ronald. And I can't blame Hermione if she decided to look elsewhere," Molly stated suddenly.
"MUM!" Ron snapped.
"What? You think I'm going to sit here and be sorry for you? You cheated on the poor girl and yet you think the two of you are still going to be together? Hermione is a smart girl, and a proud one. She is not going to make the same mistake twice."
"No, she's just going to make an even worse one by being with Malfoy," Ron snarled.
"From what I've seen, the boy seems reasonable. He has been nothing but polite, and has even put up with the crap that Fred and George have been putting him through without retaliating," she said as she looked over at her twin sons, who looked away sheepishly. "Yes boys, I know you have been pulling pranks on the boy, I'm not an idiot. You're lucky I just haven't caught you in the act. And Dumbledore trusts him."
"Oh, so because Dumbledore trusts him that means he's an angel does it? What about everything that git has put us all through throughout the years? Are we just supposed to forget about it all? Well guess what, that's not going to happen. He's still a git, and I can't stand him!" Ron snapped.
"Well, I think this has been a long enough conversation for today," Charlie said standing up.
Everyone else followed suit, wanting to get out of the kitchen and the tension that had been created.
