Draco had known she was going to say his father before he had even heard her utter the words, but hearing them was totally different than thinking it. He felt as if he had been slapped, hard. Everyone's attention was now directed his way, and he was doing everything he could to not freak out in front of everyone. He knew that wouldn't help the situation, and he needed to stay calm, he needed to be able to think.
"What would your father want with Hermione?" Harry asked.
"I honestly don't know," Draco said shaking his head. He didn't know why his father had targeted Hermione and had been going after her. His father wasn't the kind of man to just do something randomly. Unless.. Draco's blood ran cold. Unless his father had somehow found out about him and Hermione. But that was impossible, there was no way that he could have found out… was there?
"Earth to Malfoy," Ginny said waving her hand in front of his face.
"He knows," Draco said, dread filling him.
"What? What does he know?" Ginny asked confused.
"He knows about us."
Draco watched as Ginny processed the information that he had just given her.
"Are you sure?"
"What do you mean?" Draco asked.
"Well, didn't the attacks at the school start happening before you and Hermione started falling for each other?"
Draco thought back to the first night that Hermione had been attacked during patrolling. She was right! Him and Hermione weren't even really on speaking terms.
"Yes!"
"So that would mean that isn't his initial reasoning for coming after her. I mean if he did eventually find out, I could see it adding to his reasoning's, but in the beginning that couldn't be why. Can you think of any reason why your dad would be targeting Hermione?"
"For Voldemort."
Draco looked over at Harry who had answered before he had even had a chance to think over Ginny's words.
"What?"
"That's why he's doing it. For Voldemort," Harry stated. "Your dad is still a Death Eater, is he not?"
Everyone was once again looking at Draco.
"Last I knew, he was," Draco said, hating to admit it.
"And no offense, but he would do just about anything to gain points with him."
"Well you wouldn't be wrong," Draco stated sourly.
"Okay, so say he is getting Hermione for Voldemort. But why?" Ginny asked.
"To get to me," Harry stated angrily. "Everyone knows how close Hermione and I are, and they know that I would do anything to save her, even if it meant walking straight into enemy lines. That's why they did it. Because they know I'll be coming after her."
"Harry, you can't. You'll get yourself killed. Besides, we don't even know where they've taken her," Ginny said.
"It doesn't matter!" Harry snapped. "I'll find her. I can't just sit here and do nothing. Hermione has been captured because of me. Do you know how that feels? To have the people around you constantly in danger because of who you are?"
"Harry dear, you can't blame yourself," Molly said reassuringly.
"I'm sorry Mrs. Weasley but I can, and I will. Had Hermione not been friends with me, she'd be safe. They know how much Hermione means to me. Without her help I probably wouldn't even be standing here today. She's saved mine and Ron's asses on multiple occasions because of her quick thinking and intelligence. Voldemort knows that. He's been in my mind. He knows that I would feel obligated to save Hermione because of everything she's done for me, and not only that but because she is one of my best friends. I can't just stand here and do nothing knowing that Voldemorts doing this to get to me. Yes, running to him is exactly what he's expecting, but that's because he knows that's what I am going to do."
"Unless you don't do that," Draco stated suddenly.
"What?" Harry asked confused.
"You said that my father was the one who captured Granger, correct?' Draco asked looking at Ginny.
"Your inherited hair colour is impossible to misplace," Ginny stated.
"Then I'll go after her."
"And how exactly are you planning on doing that?" Ron questioned.
"Because I know where she is," Draco stated, the answer dawning on him.
"How could you possibly know that?" Ron asked.
"Because, as Potter earlier stated, my father would do anything for his master. Including turning the Manor into a safe house for the Death Eaters and Voldemort himself."
"So you think Hermione is at your place?" Ginny asked hopefully.
"I can guarantee that is where she is."
"Then let's go after her!" Ron stated.
"It's not that simple."
"What do you mean it's not that simple Malfoy?" Ron asked suspicious.
"There are wards up all over the surrounding property to inform everyone in the house of intruders. You wouldn't be able to get anywhere close to the house before getting swarmed and surrounded by Death Eaters, who I am sure have been updated on what has happened, and are patiently awaiting your arrival. You'd be captured, or worse, and would be of no help to Granger."
"So, what you're pretty much telling us, is that there is nothing that we can do?" Harry asked angrily.
"I'm not telling you this to piss you off, I'm telling you this to save your assses, believe it or not," Draco stated.
"How do we know you're not lying?" Ron asked.
"Honestly Weasley, had this been at the beginning of the year, I would have edged you on just so you would end up going to the Manor to be captured, as I wouldn't have given two fucks on the matter. As it stands, Hermione means more to me now than my feelings for you, meaning that I am putting my feelings aside for the sake of hers. I know she would never forgive me if I allowed something to happen to the two of you if I had some way of preventing it. So, here I am telling you not to do exactly what everyone is expecting you lot to do, because it will not end up the way that you want it to."
"You really do love her," Ron stated.
"Took you long enough to realize," Ginny stated.
"So what are we supposed to do then? Sit here and wait until Hermione is killed?" Harry snapped.
"You and your lot are going to stay here until I tell you otherwise. Me on the other hand, I am going to return back to my Manor for Christmas."
"Christmas isn't until tomorrow!" Ron snapped.
"I am aware of that Weasley," Draco retorted, "But I can't exactly go barging into my house merely minutes after Granger has been captured. I want to help her, believe me I do, and the thought of her at my Manor without one of us there irks me, but this is what we have to do. It's the best way to keep her safe."
"You honestly think she's going to be safe at your Manor? She's surrounded by people who hate muggleborns!" Ron exclaimed.
"Once again, I am aware of that. But Voldemort knows how important Granger is to Potter, he won't do anything to severely harm her. At least not until you lot are there."
"And what happens if your plan doesn't work?" Harry questioned.
"It's going to work. It has to," Draco stated.
"And if it doesn't?" Harry inquired.
"Then we're going to have to improvise," Draco snapped.
"What exactly is your plan?" Ginny asked.
"I'm going to go to the Manor, without all of you," Draco said looking around. "I'm going to try and get as much information regarding the situation as possible. I'm going to find a way to disable all of the charms around the Manor," Draco looked directly at Harry for his next piece. "I'm not going to be able to drop the barriers for long, so you need to make sure to get there right on the time that I tell you. I'll send you an owl that will contain all of the information that you need."
"I really hope Hermione is okay," Ginny stated softly.
"Hermione is a fighter, she won't go down easily," Arthur stated.
"What happens if we don't get an owl from you?" Harry questioned.
"The only way you won't receive an owl from me is if something goes terribly wrong. So in that case, feel free to attack the Manor with as much brute and force as you can manage."
"Well, let's hope it doesn't resort to that shall we?" Arthur stated.
"Brute and force? Wicked," Fred stated.
"You boys better listen to whatever Harry tells you. No funny business! This is not a joking matter!" Molly snapped.
"So I guess it's settled then," Harry stated. "Tomorrow Malfoy will leave for the Manor, and we are to await his owl with instructions as to how to proceed forward.
Harry turned and looked at Draco, addressing him directly. "Malfoy, I know you love Hermione, and that's the only reason that I am even considering your plan. But if I find out that you are somehow double crossing us, believe me, I will be coming after you with more vigor and 'brute and force' than you could ever imagine."
"I understand your concerns, but I assure you that I am not double crossing you."
Harry nodded. "Good."
"I'm going to head upstairs and contemplate over everything in my room. If anyone needs me, you know how to find me," Draco stated as he exited the kitchen.
"Do you actually believe him?" George asked as soon as Draco was gone.
"Honestly, I do," Harry stated.
"I do too," Ginny said.
"What if it's all a set up?" Ron questioned.
"Then we will deal with it accordingly. But I don't think that Malfoy will set us up. He cares about Hermione just as much as we do, and he knows how important we are to her. She would never forgive him if he let something happen to us," Harry said wisely.
"Do you think it's been his father going after her all year long?" Ron asked.
"I think so. I don't know why different Death Eaters would be going after her. If it was a mission, Voldemort usually has one person do it right through."
"Do you think it was his idea to go after Hermione?" Ginny asked Harry.
"I don't see why else Malfoy's father would be going after Hermione otherwise."
"I hate sitting here having to wait until tomorrow!" Ron snapped. "What if something happens to her before then. What if we're too late?!"
"Don't think like that Ronald!" Molly snapped.
"Molly dear, could you give me a hand with something?" Arthur asked, wanting to get his wife out of the kitchen and away from the conversation.
"I know what you're trying to do Arthur, and it's not working. I don't understand how you kids are always involved in things such as this. It's not fair. If something happens to any of you…"
"Nothing is going to happen to us Mrs. Weasley," Harry stated.
"Harry dear, always trying to make me feel better, and I love you for it," Molly said wiping away tears.
"We need to contact the order, let everyone know what's happened. I know Dumbledore would want to be informed of Hermione's abduction, as well as the rest of the order. As much as I don't want to get anyone else involved, I think it would be best if we get as much bodies as possible, especially heading right into enemy territory," Harry said voicing his thoughts. "Everyone here can form a patronus, correct?"
He heard yes's all around the room.
"Okay good, I'm going to need everyone's help with sending messages to everyone. I want every order member notified, and whoever else you think would be an asset to our side. I don't want to go in there underprepared or not having enough back up. This is the fight that we have all been waiting for, I can feel it."
Harry looked around, making sure that everyone understood the importance and truth behind his words. Harry had known that this time was coming, it was only a matter of time. The end was inevitable. He just wished it would have come about differently. Having Hermione captured and not fighting with them was a major downfall, which was why Voldemort had her captured in the first place. He had been inside of his head, he know how much Harry depended on Hermione for things, how smart she was. He also knew that by capturing Hermione, it would provoke a war.
"I want to apologize to you all right now-" Harry started.
"Oh don't do that," Ginny snapped.
"Do what?" Harry asked.
"Start blaming yourself for what happened, and apologizing to us for being in your life. The war was going to happen regardless had it been you or someone else, and we all still would have been entering in the battle fighting for what we believe in, which is the good, the light."
"How did you-"
"Because every time that something happens with Voldemort you start apologizing to us for being your friends and caring about you."
"I feel responsible for it all. And if anything happened to any of you-"
"Then we would die fighting for something we believed in, in hopes to make this world a better place, rid of all this pureblood is best nonsense that Voldemort and his followers all believe in. No matter what, we all would have been fighting this final battle Harry. Being friends with you doesn't change anything."
Harry walked over to Ginny, grabbed her face, and kissed her.
"Oi!"
Harry pulled back, his love and adoration for the woman in front of him written all over his face.
"I love you Gin."
"I love you too," Ginny said, her face red.
"Awe, look at the two lovebirds," Fred said making kissy noises.
"Makes me kind of sick," George stated.
"I agree with you on that one George," Fred agreed.
"Oh leave them alone you two! You're just jealous," Molly stated swatting them both.
"Yes mother you caught me. I dream about kissing Harry every night."
"He is dreamy, wouldn't you agree Fred?"
"His dark hair really does bring out his green eyes, I can see what you mean George."
"You two are idiots," Ginny said laughing and rolling her eyes.
"But you love us!" George exclaimed.
"I don't have a choice."
"Even if you did you would love us anyways, for our good looks."
"And our amazing personalities," Fred added.
Ron snorted.
"What she said is right though Harry. We would be in this battle regardless. We just have more to fight for now that we are your friends," Ron stated.
"Well, I really appreciate everything that you have all done for me throughout the years. I honestly don't know where I would be today without all of you. Mrs. Weasley, Mr. Weasley, you have treated me as a son, and for that I cannot thank you enough. You showed me the love and care that I didn't even know existed until I met you."
"Oh Harry dear, it was nothing," Mrs. Weasley said beaming.
"All of you have kept me going throughout the years, have stuck by my side through everything, and I will never be able to repay any of you for that. I just want it known how much I appreciate each and every one of you and what you've done for me."
"That's what friends do mate," Ron said slapping him on the back.
"Well still, thank you."
Ginny smiled at Harry and kissed him on the cheek. "You're welcome."
"Alright, so I am going to send an owl to Dumbledore and inform him of what has happened. Once I hear back from him, then we will start sending our patronuses to everyone else. Mrs. Weasley, is it alright if we tell everyone to meet up here?"
"Of course Harry."
"Okay, thank you. I'm going to head upstairs and write my letter now, it probably won't take long to get a response. But in the meantime, everyone should try and get some rest and relax so we're all in top shape for tomorrow."
Harry looked around the room and everyone nodded their understading.
"I know how everyone is feeling right now, because I feel the same way. I hate sitting around not doing anything about what has happened, but Malfoy was right with what he said, and the best thing that we can do for Hermione right now is wait."
"We understand Harry," Ginny said softly.
Harry nodded.
"I'll see you all in a bit," Harry said as he left the kitchen.
Ginny let out a deep breath as she watched her boyfriend leave. She knew that Harry felt responsible for Hermione's kidnapping, regardless of what they said to him. She felt bad for him, the things that he had to continuously endure just because of who he was, wasn't fair. Harry was one of the sweetest people she had ever met, yet she had also never met someone who had had so many negative things happen to. She looked around the room at the grim faces of her family. She knew that they were all thinking the same thing, that this might be the last day that they all spent together. Ginny didn't want to think like that, she knew that everyone in her family had battled Voldemort and the Death Eaters on other occasions, but this was different, this was the final battle, and there were bound to be losses on both sides. Ginny prayed that it was none of her family. She knew it would destroy them all, her mother especially.
She let out a deep breath and sat down on one of the kitchen chairs, letting out another deep breath.
All they could do right now was wait.
