Harry was anxious. He felt the urge to get up and pace, but knew that he couldn't. He needed to put up a strong, calm front for everyone else so they didn't all end up in the same state that he was. That was the thing about being the leader, even though he wished he wasn't, everyone looked towards you for guidance.
Harry was also starting to worry on top of being anxious. They still hadn't heard a thing from Draco, not that it was a bad sign, but Harry was hoping that he would have gotten something from him by now. Sitting and waiting was horrible because you had no idea what was going on, and your mind would conjure up the worst scenario imaginable, making Harry that much more anxious and worried.
He looked around at his friends and saw the emotions that he was masking evident on all of their faces.
A patronus of a wolf appeared in the kitchen, and Harry stood up.
"NOW!"
Draco's voice shouted throughout the room, and the patronus disappeared immediately after the message was delivered.
Harry looked calmly over at Dumbledore, who nodded at him encouragingly. He then looked around the room and saw that everyone's attention was now on him.
"Alright guys, this is it. This is the moment that we have all been waiting for, the final battle. There is nothing that I can say to you all that you haven't already heard, but please everyone be safe and watch out for one another. We are a team fighting for the same side and beliefs, remember that when we get there. Remember that the people we are fighting will kill us without a second thought, so do whatever you need to do in order to ensure both yours, and your family and friends safety also."
Harry looked into everyone's eyes, making sure they understood the severity of what they were all about to do.
"If anyone wants to back out, I completely understand and now is your chance."
When nobody left, Harry nodded. "I want to thank all of you for what you are about to do, and know that I appreciate it immensely. Anyone who doesn't feel comfortable apparting alone, or whoever has not yet mastered this, please apparate alongside someone who can. I want all of you in perfect shape when we arrive. Now, let's go save Hermione, and end this once and for all."
The war cry that everyone let out upon him finishing his talk was unexpected, and Harry couldn't help but smile.
"Could I apparate alongside you Harry?" Neville asked coming towards him. "I mean, I can get it sometimes, but I'm a little anxious about it all and I don't want to mess it up, gram would be pissed if I came back home missing an ear or something."
"Of course Neville. Now, everyone apparate to the Malfoy Manor on the count of three."
"One…Two…..Three."
The familiar sensation of apparition tore through Harry's body as he transported himself from the Burrow to the Malfoy Manor. He could feel Neville holding on to his arm for dear life, and Harry knew that he was going to have a bruise. He let out a deep breath of relied when he finally stood on the street in front of the Manor, relieved that the appartion was over. Harry had never been a fan of it, it always left him feeling woozy.
He heard the pop sounds of the rest of the Order apparting around him, and he waited until everyone was accounted for before nodding and heading towards the Manor, everyone else following behind him.
"Draco, I can't reach it!"
"Come on Granger!."
Hermione let out a frustrated sigh as she pulled her arm back into her cell, sitting on the floor in defeat.
"I never pegged you as a quitter Granger."
"I'm not a quitter Draco, I've been trying to get your damn wand for the past half hour. My arms aren't getting any longer," she snapped annoyed.
Draco's eyes softened as he looked at her defeated look. "Granger, I know you're not. I'm sorry. I'm just as frustrated as you are. I feel utterly useless laying here not being able to move."
"I'm sorry for snapping on you. I just can't stand sitting here doing nothing! I couldn't even defend you if it came down to it because I'm wandless and am not strong enough to fight anyone off it need be."
"I should be the one defending you Granger, not the other way around," Draco stated amusedly.
"I am not incapable of defending myself and others."
"I never said you were. Trust me Granger, me of all people know that you are more than capable of defending yourself."
He smirked as he saw a smile appear on her face.
"This sucks Draco! I hate not being able to do anything."
"The feeling is mutual."
"Yeah, well it's my fault you're in this situation in the first place."
"Granger, it's not your fault. It's not like you made me fall in love with you. I mean, obviously it is your fault a little bit, with your know it all personality and snarky comments, I mean who wouldn't be drawn to that."
Hermione narrowed her eyes at him.
"I'm kidding, sort of. But in all honesty, everything that happened was due to my choices, and I wouldn't change what I did for a minute."
Hermione's eyes welled up and she looked at him, her face displaying all the love and affection that she felt for him. "Draco I-"
A loud crash came from upstairs and cut Hermione off mid sentence. They could hear the sounds of footsteps running around, the cries of people as they yelled out, the rumbles from spells being thrown this way and that, and Hermione locked eyes with Draco, her face showing her fear.
"Hey, it's okay. Everything is going to be okay," Draco said soothingly.
"It's Harry isn't it? He's here."
There was some more loud crashes and yelling from up above.
"Don't worry Granger, Potter and everyone are going to be fine. He's the boy who doesn't die, you have nothing to worry about."
"How can you be so sure? If anything happens to any of them I am never going to forgive myself."
"Granger, as much as it pains me to say this, your friends are one of the luckiest groups of people I have ever met, and I am certain that they are all going to be fine. They know what they're doing, and if anyone can take on the Dark Lord and his followers it's them."
Draco felt a faint blush rise onto his cheeks as Hermione looked at him in awe.
"Oh stop looking at me like that Granger."
"I never realized you felt that way."
"Well it's bloody obvious how strong all of you are. Why do you think I hated you all so much? Even Longbottom of all people openly joins you all and fights by your side without question."
"Your house would do the same for you."
Draco snorted. "Yes, only because they would all want personal gain from it, thinking that somehow it would make them seem more desirable for the Dark Lord. It isn't about friendships in Slytherin, it's about who's family is the most powerful, or who evokes the most fear. The minute something goes wrong the others will flee, there's no loyalty. Your lot will stick together even if it means you will all die together."
Hermione looked at him sadly. "That's horrible."
"It's the way things are."
"But at least you had Blaise."
"And I've only realized recently how lucky I am to have him as a friend. There's been more than one occasion where I haven't exactly treated him well, and was undeserving of his friendship. Hell, I still don't understand how you believe I'm deserving of you. I mean, don't get me wrong I'm not complaining or anything, but I treated you like absolute shit the past six years because I was an inconsiderate git who believed in all that Pureblood nonsense."
"Well it's about time you realized what an awesome person I am Drake. Took you long enough."
Hermione jumped up and ran over to the front of the cage. "Blaise!"
Blaise walked out of the darkness, a smile on his face. "So Drake, you want to keep talking about how much you love me?"
"Oh shove it up your ass Zabini."
Blaise barked out a laugh. "That's not the way to talk to the person who's here to save your ass."
"Well then get over here and do what you've come here to do."
"Why are you laying on the ground?"
"Because I can't bloody move."
Blaise smirked. "Got yourself in quite the predicament don't you?"
"Can you stop being so smug and get me out of here?"
"Of course your majesty," Blaise said bowing down.
Draco rolled his eyes.
Blaise unlocked Hermione's cell with a wave of his wand, and then proceeded to unlock the cell Draco was in.
Draco let out a deep breath of relief when Blaise lifted the curse that had left him immobilized. He stretched out, enjoying the pain he felt while awakening his stiff muscles.
Draco grabbed for his wand out of his pocket, and was thankful that it was still in one piece. He looked up at Blaise as he said,
"So I'm guessing you all got onto the property alright?"
"We did, thanks to you. Although I believe they knew we were coming, we still caught them by momentary surprise."
"So Potter and his lot are winning?" Draco asked.
"The battle was still in full force when I came down here. I figured this was where the two of you were being held, so I snuck away."
"Well let's head up there and see what's going on shall we?"
"How did you end up in the dungeons anyways?" Blaise asked as they made their way up to the main floor.
Draco swung open the door.
"Draco, what a pleasant surprise," Lucius hissed venomously. "And look, your accompanied by your filthy Mudblood tramp."
Draco raised his wand at his father, his face contorted with anger. "Don't call her that."
Lucius's face betrayed his disgust. "So it is true after all. You chose that filth over your own family, your heritage."
Draco kept quiet, his eyes locked onto his father. "Stay behind me Granger."
"Protecting her? And when I thought you could stoop no lower. I was hoping that this was just a phase, that maybe you just needed to get her out of your system, that you were having a momentary lapse in judgment. But clearly you're an inbred, an abomination to the Malfoy name."
"I thought we already established earlier that you're the one who destroyed the Malfoy name father." Draco hissed.
"How dare you speak to me like that!" Lucius snapped.
Draco smirked at his father's outburst.
"And Blaise, your father will be so pleased to know that you're here."
"I'm sure he will."
"Seize them!"
Before any of them could comprehend what was going on, they were all grabbed from behind.
Lucius looked at them all triumphantly. "So easily distracted. Now you can all come and watch the show along with the rest of your friends."
Hermione looked over at Draco, concern and worry all over her face.
The three of them were lead into the main living room, where they found some of the other Order members tied up and bound, some unconscious, some with nasty looking bumps, bruises and cuts.
Hermione looked at all of her friends felt her stomach drop. She saw Luna, whom she couldn't tell whether or not she was unconscious or dead. Hermione was hoping that it wasn't the latter.
Lucius strode in front of them, a smirk on his pale face.
"How does it feel to be on the losing side Draco? To sit there amongst your friends useless and incapable of doing anything. Having to stand there and watch as I do this-"
Lucius raised his wand and pointed it at Hermione.
"Crucio!"
"STOP! It's me you're mad at, not her. Take it out on me."
Lucius stopped the spell and smirked at Draco. "But this is so much more fun. What would using this spell on you do? I've done it millions of times. But you having to stand there and watch me use it on this thing that you've betrayed your family for, makes it much more worth my time."
"You bastard," Draco hissed.
"Tut , tut, tut. Language Draco."
Lucius turned his attention back to Hermione.
Draco looked at Hermione, who was looking at him. "I'm sorry" he mouthed to her.
She gave him a small smile before his father used the curse on her again.
Draco's anger welled up inside him as he looked at his father, who was enjoying tormenting the girl he loved. He could also see the annoyance on his fathers face, because Hermione had yet to scream. He had to hand it to her, she was strong.
The doors burst open, and Harry and Ron came running into the room, their wands raised. Ron immediately shot a spell at Lucius, knocking him backwards. The Death Eaters who were holding them all captive, released them to go after Harry and Ron, who were now throwing spells at them.
Draco ran over to Hermione.
"Granger!"
She opened her eyes and looked at him. "Hey," she said weakly.
"Granger I'm so sorry."
She reached up and cupped the side of his face.
Draco leaned down and kissed her softly. Next thing he knew, he was flying across the room, his back hitting the wall. He looked up and saw his father standing up, anger and repulsion on his features. Draco realized then that his father had hexed him.
He stood up, his anger fueling him, and pointed his wand at his father.
"You're raising your wand at me?" Lucius asked amused.
Draco didn't respond, his eyes not wavering away from his fathers.
Lucius's eyes hardened and narrowed. "You ungrateful child! After everything that I have done for you, everything that I have given you, this is how you treat me?"
"Everything you've done for me?" Draco questioned with a laugh. "Father the only thing you have ever done for me is show me what a cowardly piece of shit that you are. Nothing I did was ever good enough for you. Hell, you can't even make your own decisions, you need to be told what to do by someone else. So yes father, after everything you have given me, this is how I decide to reciprocate."
"Avada-"
"Crucio!"
Draco's magic overtook his fathers, and he let all of his hatred for the man burn out into the spell. He watched as his father wriggled around on the ground.
"Doesn't feel too good does it father?"
He released the spell, keeping his wand at the ready.
Lucius stood up, brushing off his robes.
"You always were weak. Letting your emotions get in the way of you all the time, and now it's going to be the death of you. AVADA KEDAVRA!"
Draco's eyes widened as the jet of green light made its way towards him.
"NO!" Hermione screeched.
Draco heard Hermione's scream of utter terror, and he avoided looking at her. He knew it would only make the situation worse. He sucked in a deep breath, waiting for his inevitable future. Funny how it was his fathers doing that was ending his life. He had always figured it would have been Potter.
He chanced a final look at his father, masking his fear. Lucius was looking at him triumphantly, knowing he had won. Draco didn't give his father the satisfaction of seeing him scared. Hell, who wouldn't be scared in the situation, watching as if in slow motion the killing curse making its way towards him. It was true what they said, that your life flashed before your eyes, and Draco wouldn't have had it any other way, because she was his life. A feeling of peace overcame him as he saw her face in his vision and focused on that, and the feeling it gave him to know that even though he had spent only a small amount of time with this woman, it had been the best moments of his life.
Just as the spell was about to hit him, something jumped in front of him.
Draco stood stock still, shocked about what had happened, and not fully understanding it either.
He looked down at the ground and saw the body of a figure that he knew well in front of him.
"No…"
Draco looked at his father, who's eyes were wide in disbelief and fear.
Hermione came running over towards him, throwing herself on top of the figure that was laying at his feet.
"Harry…"
Draco's heart broke hearing the pain in her voice.
"What have I done?" Lucius questioned.
Draco dropped down onto his knees, wrapping his arm around Hermione.
"Granger.."
Hermione buried her face into his shoulder, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Potter you bloody idiot," Draco said shaking his head.
Draco looked up at Ron, who had stopped fighting off the Death Eaters and was staring at Harry, his face showing his disbelief.
Nobody noticed when Voldemort entered the room. He looked around, taking in the scene, confused as to why everyone was standing around until he spotted Harry laying on the ground. He looked at Harry, then at Hermione and Draco, then to Lucius who was still frozen in place, a look of shock and terror.
"Lucius, what's going on?" Voldemort asked angrily.
Lucius looked at Voldemort his eyes wide in fear.
Voldemort whipped out his wand, pointing it at Lucius. "Why is Potter dead? I told everyone that Potter was mine."
"I can explain!"
"ENOUGH! AVADA KEDAVRA!"
Draco watched as his father dropped to the ground. He had always wondered what it would feel like when his father died, and he was surprised that he felt nothing. He didn't feel sad, happy, nor did he feel any remorse. It was just done. His father was gone.
Hermione looked up, and saw Lucius dead on the ground, and she looked at Draco, studying his face.
"Dr…hiccup..Draco. Are you…hiccup..okay?"
He looked down at Hermione, who was looking at him with concern, putting her feelings aside to make sure that he was okay. Here she was, hurting and devastated over the death of her best friend, yet she wanted to make sure that he was okay.
Draco placed his hands on either side of her face. "I'm fine Granger. Are you okay?"
Her lip started to tremble, and Draco pulled her to him again, wrapping his arms around her.
Draco watched as Ron's face changed from one of disbelief to one of pure anger. He watched as Ron charged towards Voldemort, his wand outstretched. Ron let out a war cry, and Voldemort turned around, momentary surprise on his face.
Before Ron was able to make any contact, Voldemort swung his wand, knocking Ron off of his feet.
"Silly boy, trying to take me on! In what world would I ever be defeated from a child!"
"Go to hell," Ron snapped.
Voldemort smirked.
"Enough of this. Potter is dead, so I have no use with any of you." Voldemort raised his wand at Ron, and Ron's eyes widened.
"Say goodbye to your friends Ronald."
"Stop right there."
Hermione pulled away from Draco, her eyes wide. Draco looked at where Harry's body used to be laying, and instead of being sprawled out on the ground, he was standing up, his wand outstretched towards Voldemort.
"Harry!" Hermione exclaimed.
Voldemort slowly spun around, his face displaying his disbelief of who was standing before him.
"How?"
Harry smirked. "Sorry to disappoint, but you can't get rid of me that easily Tom."
Voldemorts eyes narrowed. "That is not my name."
"What's wrong Tom? Am I getting on your nerves?" Harry asked as he started circling him. Voldemort followed suit.
"My name is Lord Voldemort! Tom Riddle was a pathetic muggle whom I had the misfortune of being named after. He was weak!"
"No need to get your knickers in a twist Tom."
Voldemort threw a spell at Harry, which he easily blocked.
Harry smirked. "I'm disappointed Tom, I thought you were better than that."
Voldemort narrowed his eyes. "This is the day I've been waiting for. The day to once and for all finish what I set out to do all those years ago. Say hello to your mother and father for me."
Harry narrowed his eyes, taking his fighting stance. "Let's finish this."
