A/N: Ok so I know this updating scheme has been a lot more than I originally intended and so I apologize for breaking the scheduled status quo. I promise to return to it haha. But I can't just leave an authors note and so I needed to post another chapter to tell you all that I've figured out the Forum portion of this site and I now have a discussion forum for the story as well as a place where I will reply to reviews!! I'm not sure if it's alright if I do a post each response to reviews or if I should consolidate them into one big post. But I like replying ASAP to people who review so check it often and give me your thoughts on the story!

Without further ado here is Chapter 4 "It's Not What It Seems"
Eris
“Harry I truly appreciate you letting me spend the night here.” Hermione admitted as she caught herself from falling. They had landed in the sitting room after leaving the Weasley manor. Harry brushed ash off of his friend’s shoulders and shrugged. “Honestly with the way the day has gone, it’s probably for the best. I mean it’s good you’ve straightened it all out with Ron, but your return to England was in the papers. There are bound to be people waiting to interview you at the Cauldron.”
“Oh, don’t worry about that. I altered my appearance and used the alias…”
“Penelope Clearwater” Harry finished for her, taking a step back and crossing his arms. Hermione looked up to him “How did you…?”
“That alias is famous you know. In one of the books documenting the war, it was noted that you used that alias to throw the snatchers off your trail. I’m Head Auror, it took me all of 10 minutes to find where you went last night when Ron came looking.” Hermione thanked him for not telling Ron, but frowned at the new information. She hadn’t known that there had been a book published including THAT particular part of the war. It was such a specific detail, not many would have known about that night; ultimately only her, Ron, Harry, the snatchers and the Malfoys. “Anyway…” Harry continued “if an owl can find you, anyone can, all they would have to do is follow its trail. So I figure if you spend the night here you can at least get your bearings tomorrow morning before being bombarded by the media.” Hermione nodded in agreement and slipped off her jacket. Harry followed suit and placed his jacket on the coat rack next to the fireplace before he continued on and explained the security measures Grimmauld had in place. “The only way in and out is through the floo network because I have an anti-apparition jinx covering this entire house unless I remove the spell. Also the only fireplaces connected to the living and sitting rooms are the Weasleys, the Malfoys, my office at the ministry, Malfoy’s private office at his business and the Hogwarts Headmasters office.”
“I had wondered why you wanted me to come from Hogwarts. That’s quite the defense you’ve got going there Harry, the limited access is rather brilliant. I assume you can apparate if you step onto the front porch as well. But since this place is under the fidelus charm that would only be the people who are secret keepers, which would be you correct?” Harry nodded “Kind of, Malfoy is also a secret keeper here.” Hermione pulled her scarf from around her neck “Do you think that’s wise Harry? I understand that he’s lived here but…” Harry took her jacket and scarf and hung it on the nearby rack. “Malfoy is the only reason we have peace here. We created this rather brilliant solution to the problem of all the Order members knowing where I lived post war and moved Grimmauld place.” Hermione frowned “Moved it? That’s rather impossible Harry. Granted you can make Grimmauld place unplottable. But it’s impossible to move an old wizarding house. The magic that goes into making the building also binds it to that location permanently. To move it would be to damage the fundamental foundational magic of the structure.” Harry just grinned in response, threw an arm around her shoulders and made a grand sweeping motion with his hand to draw her attention to the very room they stood in. “Have you noticed anything different about this place? You’ve been here a few times now but does it look the same as you remembered it?” Hermione’s frowned deepened “well no, I assume you’ve done some interior decorating. It’s been four years and so it’s plausible that you would have fixed this place up. Plus you live with Malfoy; I doubt his Pureblood sensibilities would have allowed him to live here unless it looked top of the line by his standards.” Harry looked as though he had taken issue with her last thought and opened his mouth to protest but Hermione quickly continued. “But say that this is true, you managed to move Grimmauld place; where could you have possibly moved it without causing a magical disruption so large, that everyone would know where you moved the building too?”
Harry dropped his earlier desire to correct her on Malfoy’s “sensibilities” in lieu of this once in a lifetime situation. He loved the fact that he would have to explain something to Hermione for once; it was different than their usual dynamic. “Look harder Hermione, the answer is right in front of your eyes. Everything looks new doesn’t it? And this room, there was no sitting room in the old Order headquarters was there?” Hermione looked up into the excited eyes of her best friend and wondered what he was trying to get at. She knew that it was impossible to move the location of a house built with magic but she didn’t see what it was that she was apparently missing about Grimmauld place. Sure everything was immaculate and the home looked like it had been restored to its former glory. But that was just because of Mal… a switch went off in her head and she began seeing the room in which she stood, with a whole new light.
“The house isn’t fixed… it’s the original home. All of it, the living room, this room. It’s all been restored to how it was when it was new.” Harry’s grin faltered a bit and he shook his head “nothing has been restored Hermione.” Hermione shook her head as if to expel her confusion “I don’t get it, if not restored then what?” Harry turned to face her and placed both hands on her shoulders “We moved the house Hermione, but the question is not to where, but to when” and then that manic smile was back on his face as if he had accomplished some great feat. Hermione shook her head again “But that doesn’t make sense.” Harry lead her to the couch excitedly, sat down and pulled her next to him. “Hermione, I’m about to tell the secret of my home. Do you promise to never discuss it with another living soul unless it’s me or Malfoy?” Hermione nodded, she knew she could trust this man no matter the circumstances. He above everyone else had earned her undying trust and loyalty. It was evident that he felt the same way because he didn’t even require a wizard’s oath from her, just her word was enough.
“It all began when Malfoy moved in, I’m sure you saw in it in the papers. Everyone went mad over the news. We were receiving visits, letters, and interview requests every waking moment of the day. It was as though all of wizarding Britain had to know the reason behind my actions. There was speculation that we were in some torrid relationship, others felt Malfoy had cursed me and there was some nefarious plot…” Hermione nodded her agreement with this theory absentmindedly. “… It was insane. We had only been roommates for 3 weeks when Malfoy decided to move out, figuring the trouble wasn’t worth the convenience of living in a magical home. But I had quite liked our arrangement and it made our weekly duels easier to schedule, so I proposed that we just employ better security methods and be done with it.” Harry leaned back in his seat and ran his fingers through his hair before pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “Disconnecting our fireplace was a simple matter, but casting an anti-apparition jinx on a home that had sucked up so much dark magic was harder. The home had a mind of its own and wasn’t really cooperative with us trying to keep people out. It was an odd quirk really, almost as if the home liked all the visitors and attention that it had been receiving. But anyway, with the random visits from old schoolmates and reporters, life was still a nightmare. A few more weeks went by and I had all but given up finding a viable solution, when Malfoy came to me with some old tome and journal. He had been apparently working on a solution the entire time. Turns out he had looked into the magic that made a time turner work and figured out to replicate it.”
“But Harry that’s….” Harry held up his hand to cut her off “just let me finish, at first I was skeptical, I remembered professor Binns explaining that the magic to control time had been lost after the creation of the time turner and so I had thought the stress had gotten to him. But Malfoy had a look in his eye that told me to at least give him a chance. It was just a very Hermione-esque moment of him and you had never let me down when you got that look so I decided to give him a listen.” It must’ve been the skeptical look that Hermione had in her eyes now that gave Harry pause, because he suddenly took a deep breath and thought about how to proceed for a moment before continuing. “Malfoy Incorporated is a multifaceted business, but they specialize in the development of new potions and cures for incurable diseases. The current project that Malfoy had been working on at the time dealt with the reversal of the growth of cancer cells in muggles.”
“But why would he help muggles? Wizards cannot get cancer, so why spend so much money on curing a strictly muggle disease?” Harry sighed “Malfoy has changed, or rather has been allowed to show his true self over the course of the past few years. There are a lot of altruisms that you wouldn’t understand or believe of him just yet. But none of this is the point, Malfoy had been looking into how to reverse the growth of these cells, not slow it or stop it but completely reverse the growth until they no longer existed in the first place.”
“That’s rather ambitious of him” Hermione scoffed, she didn’t understand what Harry was trying to get at but she did understand that Malfoy didn’t understand the rules of nature and the laws of time if he had spent so much time and money trying to accomplish this feat. Harry’s grin returned at her response though and he met her gaze head on “or rather it was until he succeeded.” Hermione felt her face get red “how have I not heard of the sudden cure for cancer in the past few years? I was living entirely with muggles. There is no way that news that big wouldn’t have gone worldwide”
“Malfoy couldn’t risk exposure of magic to muggles. There was no way the ministry would have sanctioned the release of the cure, no matter how many lives it saved if it posed a risk of all of wizarding kind. So he had to figure out a method of delivery, one of the many side effects of the disease is fatigue and Malfoy noticed that the big muggle trend is energy products and so he produced the cure in the form of pills that doctors now prescribe regularly to their patients to give them more energy through the day. The pill also notes that it can help with some of the other side effects so that it’s more desirable. Over time the one a day pill will help the body to completely reverse the effects of cancer and the muggles will be none the wiser. They will think that their own methods have finally taken effect.” Hermione felt as though the floor had fallen beneath her feet “he cured cancer but hasn’t taken the credit for it? How do they even know it works? Has it been proven to be successful?” Harry nodded “they had many trial runs of the “energy boosting pills” where the end stage muggle volunteers decided to start testing new cancer treatments in an attempt to help out others struggling with the disease because their own had become terminal. He cured about 40 or so muggles that were given less than three months to live. Once the Ministry saw this they sanctioned for worldwide spread of his invention and have tried to announce his discovery to the entire wizarding world. But Malfoy’s only terms for the manufacture and release of the cure is that no one ever knows he created it and that the method of how he created the cure, remain a Malfoy Incorporated secret. How he did it is known only to him, but the fact that he can is the main advantage of Grimmauld place.”
Harry stood suddenly and offered his hand to Hermione to help her up. He led her over to a window and opened the curtain. Outside was as she expected his front yard and the rest of Grimmauld place except the row of houses that should have been directly across the street were gone and in their place was what appeared to be a park. There wasn’t even the full street she expected. Hermione took a step back “that’s not right, I’ve seen the outside. There are more homes and a street corner.” Harry pulled the curtain shut and turned him best friend to face them. “Malfoy figured out that the only thing the time turner allowed was for the user to borrow time. They could have an infinite amount of it as long as they always returned to their own present. The danger with the time turner is that the farther you get from your own present the more you loose of yourself until you either go mad or disappear completely from your own lifeline. Malfoy took that knowledge and figured out how to bring something back and then freeze it there permanently.”
Hermione brought a slow hand to the curtain and had a second look before dropping the material back into place. She turned away from Harry and began shifting her weight side to side as if contemplating all the possible ways that this can be a ruse. Then suddenly she broke into a run “Hermione wait, no!” She peeled out of the sitting room, ran down the hall and went to the front door. Forgetting her magic she spent the better part of a few seconds unbolting the lock before she threw the door open and saw the world with her own eyes. Across the street still lied the park and now that she looked closer she noticed that the cars were all wrong, older, vintage and yet brand new. Hermione stumbled forward onto the stoop and went to take another onto the walkway toward the foreign world before her eyes. It was amazing, everything was the same but obviously different at the same time. Harry wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her back into the house, before re-bolting the door and casting a string of complex locking spells. He leaned against the blue wood and sighed. “Come back to the room and rest for a bit. It’s a lot to take in.” She nodded and followed him and sat on the arm of the couch. Harry paced in front of her for a moment and then turned to her “Malfoy has the knowledge about time magic. I don’t know how or where he found it. But he did and he’s the only one in the world. We tried it once to move this house but it’s a power too great for us. We both vowed never to try it again, even to move Grimmauld back. Outside the doors and windows is London 1912. It’s frozen at that year and will be forever. The only parts of this house that remain tied to the present are the front stoop, the living room fireplace, this entire room, the dining room and one portion of Malfoy’s area. Once step off that porch and it would have broken you, we’re too far back in time for you to have been able to find yourself. Too much borrowed time and you lose everything you are. This is our greatest secret; we’ve mastered the laws of time.”
Had it been anyone else, Hermione would have thought that they were mental. But from the way Harry had lit up when he explained it to her could only mean that he had been telling her the truth. Somehow Malfoy had rediscovered the lost time magic. Somehow he had managed the impossible. Hermione reached out and took her friend’s hand “Why tell me this then Harry? I’ve only just returned and I abandoned you for years without a single visit. Why tell me and show me this part of your world? What of Ron and Ginny, the Weasleys? Why trust me and only me?” Harry squeezed her hand and knelt in front of her and pulled her close, into a half hug, his arms around her waist as she sat. “Because you Hermione Granger are my greatest confidant and friend. If there was anyone I would trust with my future it would be you.” Then he shot to his feet and pulled her up into a real hug. “Plus aren’t you proud of us? Malfoy couldn’t pull off this much magic on his own. We cast the spell together and it turned out exactly how we wanted it; quiet, secure and perfect. Granted it took us a week to recover but eh, it could have been worse.” Hermione broke into a smile, of course he wanted praise. Harry had managed to do something she didn’t even think was possible and he must’ve been elated at the prospect. She nodded and looked up into his eyes and they both broke into laughter. Eventually when they calmed down, Hermione instantly began a barrage of questions, demanding to know as much as she can about Grimmauld place. Harry grinned at the look in her eye, this was the Hermione he had grown to love and she was excited beyond measure at the prospect of learning something new.
“So essentially since this is the version of the house that was before Voldemort’s time, there isn’t a lot of dark magic embedded here allowing you to place full anti-apparition fields?” Harry nodded “Yes, but even if they were down, you would only be able to end up in the sitting room, the dining room, or the stoop and of course Malfoy’s area. Since the rest of the house is out of time, no one can apparate there. For example, if you were to go to the front stoop and apparate to the street directly in front of the house, you’d make it just fine. But if you tried to walk to the street you’d be in 1912 and lost. Interestingly enough this house is in fact back in time, the actual inhabitants actually still alive and are living here, our frozen reality however is just layered over theirs never touching.”
“Amazing…” Hermione trailed off lost in thought at the new information. “What happens if someone tries to apparated into the parts of the time that are out of time?”
“The same effect as a blocked floo, they end up somewhere else entirely in their own time.”
Hermione was fascinated by all of this “However did you figure this out?” Harry’s smile returned “I didn’t have to; Malfoy did all the work regarding this and has only told me the rules. I want no part in time magic; it’s nothing more but responsibility.”
“And power…” Harry nodded and met her stare “An unimaginable amount of power, but I trust Malfoy’s intentions and he will take the secret to his grave before abusing it. We three are the only ones who know about this. It’s better that way.” A somber air settled around them and they sat there both lost in thought. Hermione once again doubted Malfoy’s intentions but the green-eyed wizard was feeling sorry for the burden his friend had placed on himself for Harry’s sake.
Harry cleared his throat and began to explain about the addition of the sitting room. “When we came to, it was just there. We had no clue why but it seemed to have been a room that must’ve been destroyed or removed for some reason. It holds the most magic in the entire house and for some reason it became a floo location. So instead of us just having the living room we have both and even more interesting, we have no control over this one. Whenever someone who does not inhabit Grimmauld place comes, they land in the living room as intended. But whenever Malfoy or I travel through floo we always land here. If we have guests with us, they land here as well but never if they are traveling to our house alone. It’s the strangest thing, and we have no explanation for it but both fireplaces work equally as well and can even be used at the same time. So it’s almost like an extra bonus for our discovery.” Hermione looked around the room but shrugged “Honestly this is an entire new field of information for me, I can’t even process it all without further evaluation, and so for now an extra bonus sounds just right to me. I’m assuming since you’ve used it for 4 years it’s safe. But that explanation is weird, last night when I came, I landed here before I went to the Leaky Cauldron. I ran into Malfoy right as he was leaving but I definitely arrived here.” Harry frowned “That is a bit odd; we’ve had loads of people come since we’ve moved the house and they’ve always landed in the living room. Not a single person to the sitting room.” Harry eventually stopped thinking too hard about it though and just grinned “well you are unique Hermione, maybe the house is just giving you special treatment.” They shared a laugh and continued discussing the house.
Hermione had just finished asking about the furnishing of Grimmauld place when the fire place suddenly shot to life. Out came Malfoy looking incredibly irate. Hermione did not miss how his tie was loose around his neck and his cheeks were flushed red. She was going to frown because he had probably just returned from one of his many trysts but she was still slightly shocked from what she had just learned. The sudden appearance of Malfoy made her involuntarily see him in a new light. The power and skill it would have taken to accomplish the things he had was unreal. She didn’t think that she would have been able to pull it off herself. Merlin, she hadn’t even known that kind of magic was possible anymore. Malfoy must be truly brilliant she thought to herself and suddenly she found herself enamored by the thought of an intellect that truly rivaled her own. His mind appealed to her in a way no one’s ever had. Hermione needed to know more about him.
However despite how impressed she was with the blond, this new knowledge only confirmed that there was no way he should have been holed up here living with Harry. The Malfoy prestige was something he revered above all else. With a magical discovery like this, the Malfoy name would forever be engrained in history. So why hide away here? He was up to something, Hermione just knew it. She watched as he shook out his jacket frustrated and turned on the spot to leave the room. He must’ve not seen them on the couch because he froze. The arm holding the jacket fell to his side and silver clashed with brown. The expression Malfoy wore was shocked, almost haunted. The anger fell from his face the instant their eyes locked and she suddenly felt privy to a lot more than Malfoy intended.
All Draco had wanted to do was get to his room and forget the night had ever happened. He had decided he wasn’t even going to get back at Blaise for his prank because that would be admitting that the Italian had gotten to him. Draco began shaking the ash off his jacket in frustration, how had he fallen for such a trivial ruse? He was irritated with his sudden lack of finesse and control. This was abnormal! He should have just canceled the spell once he realized the twins hadn’t been Granger and continued on for the night. Clearly he was coming down with something, this behavior was uncanny at best and Draco couldn’t handle being the butt of every single joke Blaise was going to pull after tonight. Draco sighed; well at least he was home now and didn’t have to think about it any longer. He probably needed a vacation; the stress from work must’ve finally been getting to him. Draco turned around to head to his wing but for the second time that night was frozen in place, oh for fuck’s sake. Sitting there on the edge of the couch in a modest blue dress was Hermione Granger. Draco had the craziest desire to look around for Blaise, but there was only one of them. Not two of them, just one and with Potter no less, so that only confirmed that this Granger was the real deal.
That clandestine realization only made the night take a dive for worse because the answering desire was so swift and sudden that it brought Draco back to where he had been just minutes ago. He wanted her in the worst of ways and as soon as possible. Their eyes met and Draco held her stare, involuntarily willing her to understand the things he fully intended to do to her body. His gaze ran the length of her before returning to those large brown eyes and he saw her shiver in response. Her hair was pulled back in a long ponytail and her face was free of makeup, unlike the twins. Somehow seeing her fully clothed was more erotic than her naked doppelgangers. Draco loved the idea of a chase and could imagine how she would be. He would strip every single layer that she had on and kiss and bite her into submission before taking her right on the couch where she sat. Draco felt his shoulders tense and the blood rush south to his swelling member. Granger would protest at first, being the prude that she was but that would only turn him on more. She might even try to deny him on principal of it being him, but Draco would rise to the challenge and have her begging for him to fuck her. The images came to mind before he could stall them and he saw himself on his knees in front of her lifting her dress and cupping her hips. He wouldn’t even give her warning before he had his mouth on her, sucking and tasting. His tongue brushing and stroking her clit before slipping inside; fuck she would love it, he thought to himself holding back a groan. Draco suddenly didn’t care about his own standards; he didn’t care about his history with the woman in front of him. All he knew was the desire was ringing in his ears and that there would be nothing sweeter than having this one witch in particular cumming on his tongue.
Malfoy took a step toward her and Hermione felt her breathe catch in her throat. She wanted to blink, or move and look away from him but his eyes held hers captive. He was exuding sheer and raw animal like aggression and she seemed to be the focal point. He looks like he might eat me she thought to herself and shivered. Her nipples tightened and she felt goose bumps rise on her skin at the notion. His eyes narrowed slightly and she could see that he was fighting with himself not to take a single step more in her direction but she hadn’t a real clue as to why. Suddenly Harry rose to his feet breaking the daze Malfoy had put her under and she brought her eyes down to the floor. She looked back up to him as soon as she had looked away but the moment was lost. Malfoy turned away from them and left the sitting room abruptly. Harry who had risen to greet his roommate shook his head “He must’ve had one hell of a night.” Hermione could only nod her agreement still feeling the sudden effects of Malfoy’s behavior. “Come on…” Harry continued reaching out a hand “let me show you the guest room.” She let him lead her up the stairs to where she would be staying, but even as she settled in bed more than an hour later, she still couldn’t get the expression on Malfoy’s face and those piercing silver eyes out of her mind.
In the dead of the night, music could be heard from the outside of the green door at number 12 Grimmauld place. It was a slow and somber song that carried on for hours before it finally quieted at the break of dawn. If anyone had cared to listen closely, a sudden crash could be heard followed by a string of expletives and another smaller crash. There was the large moaning of something heavy hitting the ground and eventually silence. A short while later, the music began again but this time it was the rough jamming of piano keys that could be heard, creating a jarring sound that held no elation. Eventually that too ceased, and there was a moment of silence followed by a low groan. But even for the most diligent listener the next sound would remain practically inaudible. There was a rustle of silk against the skin and the soft thump of a head against wood and eventually a sigh before three whispered words, “I want Granger.”
