Chapter 5
Sitting on the deserted stretch of beach behind his home, Harry, Snape and Lucius were lounging near a bonfire that the house elves had built for them, one that you didn’t need to worry about throwing wood on here and there, sipping at bottles of the dark, imported beer that he favored, talking. Sprawled out on a blanket, the kind they sold down in town that was magical and kept all sand and other debris off, they were having a good time, snacking on the refreshments that would occasionally show up on the edges of the thing, sent by his elves. Mimi and Claude, as Harry was learning, were fantastic and knew when they were hungry, needed more beer, whatever without being told. He liked that, once more pleased with his choice of the freed elves.
It was a few days after their second meeting at the pub and the two had contacted him about getting together once more. Since it was now the height of the tourist season, the place was packed and they weren’t sure if they could find anywhere that they could have some privacy to talk. Even the beaches at this time of the night were packed to the gills. That left out almost everywhere they could go. Topping that, Lucius said Draco was over his ‘sulk’ about the incident on the beach and wanted to get out and go somewhere, usually meaning with his father. Since the elder Malfoy wasn’t in the mood to allow his son to tag along on these meetings, that put them all into a predicament as to what to do and where to go. Since Harry wasn’t about to miss another chance to talk to the two, he was having far too much fun to allow that to happen, he had come up with this. In the past, he had invited the Bums to do this during the times of the year the beaches and town were swamped so he thought it was alright. After all, it wasn’t like they could get inside his home or even see it. They were just using the beach behind it was all. Sure, he had to let them through a few of his wards, but they couldn’t come back and get in anytime they liked. So he was comfortable with this.Sprawled out there, he was listening to the two tell stories about some of the students at Hogwarts and their antics, rolling as he did. Sure, when he was there he had seen some funny things but listening to tales about others told from the perspective of professors was hilarious. And it seemed that Snape couldn’t resist telling about Neville and his many cauldron explosions and mishaps. Though he had been there for most of those, it was tear-worthy funny to listen to from the potions master’s perspective. It seemed, at least the way he was interpreting what he heard, that Snape also found some of it funny in hindsight. That made it even better.Lucius too had some funny tales to tell. Though he hadn’t taught as long as Snape, he had taken over a position in a class that most, since time immemorial, had used to sleep in, finding Binns the ghost something that brought on naptime from his monotone voice and how he taught. Not to mention the subject matter. From the way Lucius told it, he made it clear from his first year on that he wasn’t about to allow such things. Though he tried to make a very dry subject more palatable, it was hard to do so he got creative with it. From the sounds of things, he had learned his lessons with students doing that. He had tried re-enacting scenes from history, something that ended up with them almost blowing up the classroom, to bringing in actual trolls. They had gotten into fights with each other in the classroom, though the students had found that fun to observe, it wreaked havoc with things. He used different books, one of which ended up sucking one poor unsuspecting student into it for an up close and personal view of the troll/goblin wars, as well as fieldtrips to Wizarding museums that had interactive displays, something that always ended with a disaster of some sort or another. Listening to the calm, cool, unrufflable Lucius Malfoy tell of his misadventures with things like this had Harry in tears he was laughing so hard. It seemed that the elder aristocrat was now convinced that the reason a ghost taught the class was that it was perpetually jinxed! That made Harry laugh harder.Though he hadn’t thought that he could tolerate Lucius, Harry was finding that the blonde’s presence and talking to him was something that he liked. It helped that it did, indeed, appear that he had changed over the years. Yeah, he was sure that part of it was due to the fact that he didn’t know he was talking to Harry Potter, but the realism was the Lucius Malfoy that Harry was seeing was someone that he found himself liking. The same with Snape. Sure, he knew the Potions master wasn’t the snarky ass that he had thought he was in school, but he was finding that the true Snape, the one he was seeing when they talked, was someone that he liked to be around, a lot.Though he knew that they were going to be going back to Britain in a little over a week, he found himself hoping for something that would keep the relationship that was developing between them growing. Sure, it was a false hope, he knew that, but he couldn’t bring himself to quash it. For him, this was perfect and something that he was quickly coming to adore. But he knew that wasn’t to be. They were only here for two weeks then they would go home and he back to the life he had built. But that didn’t mean that he couldn’t have fun while they were here.Since finding this place and making his life here, he had seen some of the other Bums have summer flings and disappear with someone they had found for the time the other being was around but he, himself, had never done that. Sure, he had a few one night stands with tourists and vacationers but had never done something like this. However, now, he could see the attraction and why they would. The way he saw it, he might as well enjoy it while it was going on, no sense ruining the fun by over-thinking the whole thing and pondering the outcome.

Reclining on the blanket next to the young man, Lucius was sipping at the beer that was provided them. Normally, his aristocratic tastes would have balked at something as pedestrian as beer but he was finding the brand the young man provided, something from Germany if he remembered what he had been told, was to his liking; rich and dark, it had a wonderful, robust flavor that was most enjoyable. He thought that, when they returned home he might procure some for his enjoyment once in a while.
Beyond that, he liked sitting on the beach, alone, with the other two talking. Very much so in fact. Though he had agreed to this as a last resort when he saw the crowds in town, he now was finding that it was most enjoyable. From where they were, they could see the lights from town down the beach and some of the raucous noise from the busy town reached them but they were distanced enough that they didn’t feel ‘invaded’ by it. Not only that, the food and company was good, making it an all around enjoyable time.
However, there was one question in Lucius’ mind that he wanted answered before the night was over; which way this young man’s sexuality pointed. Though he liked these talks and the fun that they inspired, he also found the young man attractive and was hoping for something more before they had to go home. Though he had indulged in both sexes all his life, he had to admit, especially since Narcissa left, that he preferred the company of the male of the species more, when he could get it that was. Nowadays, since the Dark Lord’s fall, that wasn’t as easy as it had been in the past. However, his past didn’t seem to matter too much to this young man so he thought there might be a chance if he was amiable to such things.

Long legs stretched out, Snape was sitting up, resting on his palms while talking to Jay. While doing that, he also kept an eye on Lucius. Knowing his old friend, he was pretty sure what he was up to. Most times he would have done what he could to rein him in before he did something to embarrass them but this time he didn’t. He too found Jay extremely attractive and a little fling before going back home held an appeal for him. So he was content to see what Lucius could pull off in this direction. As he was well aware, his friend was the epitome of smooth, far more than he ever hoped to be, and could charm anyone, giving half the chance, into doing what he wanted. With Jay, since neither of them knew which way he bent in that department, he was willing to follow Lucius’ lead and let him see what he could find out. It would be far easier that way. But, tonight when they were headed home, he was going to ensure that his old friend knew that whatever came of it, he was going to be involved. It wasn’t often that he found a young man whom he found to be interesting, and unlike Lucius, he wasn’t interested in one time things with a being that he didn’t know. He liked to know at least something about the being before it progressed to the stage of intimacy. Plus, really, he found Jay attractive on many levels, not just physically. That was unusual so he wasn’t about to pass it up.Engaging the boy in more conversation about various things that had changed in Britain after the fall of the Dark Lord, he kept one eye on Lucius as he inched forward until he was pressed against the younger man’s body. Somewhere in him, he sighed, wishing that he had the confidence to be so bold. But he was also heartened. That meant that Lucius had a plan in place to try something. With an internal nod, that pleased him. It at least meant that they might know soon which preference the boy had. Taking a drink and draining the last mouthful of the bottle of beer he held, he tossed the empty into a pail beside the blanket then reached for another one. Feeling the cold from the bottle infuse his hand, he cracked it open then took a sip of it, contentment filling him. This night had been fun even though there were just the three of them and they had done no more than talk. It was as though they fit in some way and things came easy. He was never one to be so open with things as he was with Jay, nor was Lucius from what he knew of him. Jay, from all he had heard from local gossip, was the close-mouthed sort that gave as little away about himself as he could. Snape assumed, from what he knew of the Bums, that Jay, too, was hiding from his past or something in Britain like most of them were. Either it was the hurt of what had gone on in the war, the memories of it, or just life in general. That was fine, really it was. After all, he had done such a thing for years while teaching at Hogwarts. With all the bad that had come from Voldemort’s second rise, one could understand that.Glancing at the boy askance, he still thought there was something familiar about him but, no matter how hard he racked his brain, couldn’t place who he could be. But, really, he decided that it didn’t matter. Whoever this was and whether or not he knew him in the past didn’t matter in the scheme of things. All that mattered was what was now and could be, nothing more. With that thought, he relaxed more. It was time to quit worrying about some things and go with the flow as the kids put it. If they did know each other in the past then Jay would eventually tell him how that was.

When Harry felt Lucius press up against him, he stiffened up, shocked but quickly relaxed. Alright, he had to admit that he liked the feeling and the fact that at least Lucius might be interested in something besides talking. Snape, though, he wasn’t sure about. With the way the Potions master had felt about his mother, he was sure that he was arrow straight and didn’t lean the other way. Nor was he all that certain as to whether Snape would appreciate him doing something with Lucius, even if it wasn’t in his presence. He didn’t want to ruin what they had built so far, thought it wasn’t much, by doing something like this. However, he most certainly would be interested in a fling with one or both of them. Especially since he knew that it wouldn’t lead to any long term entanglements of the romantic kind for him.Feeling mellow and relaxed from the couple beers he ingested, Harry decided to see where this might lead. After all, he knew the first signs of interest when he saw them. So, he decided to make it easy on Lucius. Looking over his shoulder at the blonde, he grinned cheekily then said, “You putting the moves on me or something?” No, he had never been one that was known to be subtle in this area. In fact, he was the kind of being that hated subtle and didn’t pick up well on such things when they were tried. So it was always for the best to be up front about it, make it so much easier to deal with.“Perhaps,” Lucius replied with a smirk firmly in place. With that, he gave a mental nod of approval. He liked beings that didn’t beat around the bush about such things. Since Jay was appearing to be so open about things, he thought that was the best way to go about this. “However, that would be dependant on you.” That is where Lucius stopped, trying to decide how to phrase this. Really, the way he saw it, there was no subtle way to ask if someone preferred men or women. Especially when the being that they were talking to was as blunt as Jay was being.
Knowing that he had put the blonde on the spot, Harry decided to let him off and not make him squirm. However, that didn’t mean that he wasn’t going to have fun with it before he did. It was too rich of an opportunity for him to pass up. “Don’t tell me I left the great Lucius Malfoy speechless,” Harry tossed back, grinning bigger.
“Exactly,” Lucius said with a nod, looking around for his robes and anything else that may be laying about. Picking them up, he leaned over and kissed Jay on the shoulder once more. “However, I think that both of us would like to see you again tomorrow night. Is that acceptable to you?”
“Oh, I think I can work with that,” Harry chuckled. “Meet you out front here about the same time tomorrow night? We can decide from there what to do.”
